So simple and so yummy! Give the peanuts a quick rinse in plain water after they're done cooking if they taste too salty. If you don't eat them right away, they will soak up more salt from the cooking liquid. Just boil in plain water to reheat the leftovers and cut the salt.

One and ahalf cups of salt was way too salty. Paula, who on earth told you to put that much salt in?

I have been cooking smaller batches, in a pressure cooker for years. Only takes about 20 minutes for green peanuts and then let them stand until you get the desired saltiness. I test every 5 - 10 minutes, depending on how much salt I put in to start.

I love to cook country. I LOVE boiled peanuts. Mymother has never tried them before and when I told her about them she asked a very good question. Can they be crock pot cooked, and I'm sure they can, but would they cook longer? When I first tried them it took 8 hours on the stove. Maybe cause I live in high altitudes but I think that is a great Idea however the batches probbly would have to be smaller. Has anyone cooked them in the crockpot?

My fiance who grew up in the south introduced me to this southern favorite when I traveled to Florida with him and I was hooked! You could say it was love at first bite!! The market here rarely gets green peanuts in, so when the market does get them I always buy 5 or more pounds, I have been trying to get this recipe right but my fiance says they were way too salty and I must say I do agree 100% with him I am going to adjust the amount of salt in this recipe down to a 1/2 c. Thanks Paula for this recipe, but please cut down on the salt!

Growing up my mom made these all the time on our farm in Brooksville, FL.

Although it usually takes a bit longer to cook on an electric stove, basically just simmer them - adding water as it becomes low until the peanut inside the shell is almost mushy (there should be NO crunch
