The Brown Sugar Chewies came out great!! Jes fer the fun of it I added cinnamon, nutmeg & clove to the flour mix. I used rasins instead of pecans. It kind'a came out like a chewie spice cake with rasins. mm-m-m-m good.. P.S. I had to cook it a little over 30 minutes instead if the recommended 20 minutes to get 'er done. :-

I saw the episode where this desert was made and I thought it looked so simple and good. I had already had majority of the items with the exception of vanilla and pecans. Well it was storming and did not want to chance the weather to get these items, therefore I used what I had. Instead of pecans I used walnuts and instead of vanilla extract I used almond extract. I must say that the end result was just fabulous. I will make this again in time and next I will try the original recipe. Thanks Paula D for this easy, handy, and wonderful dessert!

I am literally eating the fruit of my efforts with this recipe as I type this. I saw this show just a few days ago and remember to look up the recipe online to try it. It took me all of half an hour to complete it. I also read the other comments and, being one who has to judge on my own, decided to try it even though some folks said they cooled "hard" or were quite "bland".

If you love the taste of buttery brown sugar, you will love these chewies. I dont know why some folks said they tasted bland because I am savoring all of the buttery goodness right now and my mouth is smiling : They are chewy and delicious and they are cool. They are not hard. The only thing I did different was that I used dark brown sugar instead of light because it's what I had on hand. This is the best, fast recipe I have ever come across for a homemade snack with all the warm, wonderful flavors of homemade goodness. I will definitely make this again when I want something sweet - and it is so much healthier than any cake you can buy in a supermarket because of its natural ingredients, all of which I already had in my home. Thanks Paula for a winner!

I followed Paula's recipe but added a 1/2 cup of cinnamon chips and instead of dusting with powdered sugar I dusted with cinnamon sugar. This is a quick way to get my cinnamon fix.

    Yummy!

This was so quick, easy and good! I agree that the ingredients are already in most people's pantries. I added chocolate chips on one half and kept it plain on the other end- and I loved it both ways!

I"m surprised by the reviews saying this was bland and did not taste like brown sugar. It tastes like nothing but brown sugar. I LOVE brown sugar, so I think they're great. I do bake them a little longer, but don't leave them in too long.. they should cool to a nice chewiness. They are excellent with a scoop of vanilla icecream.. the flavors are simple and pure.

This is a good dessert to have sitting around at home to munch on. The ingredients are things that I practically always have on hand and it is very quick and easy to whip up a pan of these. The result leaves a little to be desired, though. They are just a tad bland. I think next time I make these I will drizzle some brown butter icing on top (see Paula's recipe for loaded oatmeal cookies for how to make this. I think adding butterscotch chips would also make these a wonderful and satisfying treat. Overall, I'm glad I tried these.

Once my chewies cooled they became hard. What did I do wrong?
