Delicious, hardy, and satisfying! I always use the cheaper cube steak and it comes out perfectly tender. I also use beef stock instead of water and throw in some sliced crimini or button mushrooms. You'll definately want some biscuits or rolls on hand with this dish because the gravy is "out of this world." A great Sunday dinner recipe!

If you are a real country southerner this would be your Sunday dinner, but if you are a southern cook this is not mama's dish.

I didnt like it, but my husband loved it, I think where I went wrong is that I didnt wait till the oil was not hot enough, before I put the meat in, So the flour didnt didnt toast up just kinda fell off and crusted to the bottom of the pan. I also didnt have a timer so I just estimated the cooking time and so my result turned out that the meat was still raw in the middle.....I just ended up putting it in the oven and just baking instead. Made steak sandwiches out of them....I wouldnt give this recipe another chance. My tip make sure the oil is sizzling hot and use a timer :

I've loved every other Paula Deen recipe I've tried so far. But this one is not good. I expected a chicken fried steak but this is more like a salisbury steak in a watery gravy! Not very flavorful.

This is the first Paula Deen recipe I did not absolutely love. I made this on Super Bowl Sunday when I got snowed in. I am glad I did not have guests joining me for this so-so meal. The meat was tough and the gravy was way too rich.
