This key lime pie recipe is delicious and a keeper! I would agree with other reviews in that the meringue was a bit thin, and I think it could be doubled for thicker and fluffier layer... but even so, this pie was delicious! Not too sweet, not too tart. My husband had been craving key lime pie for several weeks, and I am so glad that I tried Paula's recipe, it was a hit!

I made a key lime pie for the first time using Paula Deen's recipe last night to feed a craving for the dessert after a cruise to Key West and Cozumel last week. As part of the trip, my husband, sister, and I all stopped by the Key Lime Pie Factory in Key West for some traditional style KLP with meringue, so I've had the real thing pretty recently.
Well, this recipe recreates that store's pie almost exactly--the pie is the perfect blend of tart and sweet, and the meringue was not nearly as difficult as I feared even though I blended everything by hand. (I'm old school--no electric mixer in my kitchen! My husband tried it and agreed that it was on par with the pie we had in Key West.
As some other reviewers mentioned, I would probably use 3 or 4 egg whites in the meringue next time to boost volume, but it was great even with the 2 whites.
Highly recommended if you want a more authentic-flavored KLP vs. the usual sugary, whipped cream versions sold in grocery stores and restaurants outside of the Keys.

This pie is absolutely foolproof! It's so delicious and easy that you feel kind of bad if you bask in all the praise. So I don't. Too much fun to pass recipe on!
I must add that I have never used the sour cream, etc. We like whipped cream. I also change pie shell to whatever feels good that day. The STAR

this recipe is pretty delicious. although the meringue was a little diffiuclt to make. if you add 2 whole eggs to the filling, you dont need to add the tartar and this makes the meringue a whole lot easier to prepare(although it does take patience also i added about 3-4 egg whites instead of two. all in all a great pie!

I found key lime juice at my local gourmet fruit market and grated lime zest in the filling. Much better and easier!

This recipe is so good I continue to make it! It is very fast and very easy. The lime zest adds the perfect sour to the sweet. Cooks in 15 mins. Can't go wrong with this one!
