And we have a winner! I was craving donuts and all I could find without going to the grocery store was a $5 can of organic biscuits. Next time I'll go get a cheaper can. Either way, these are so good! I tried Alton's recipe a while ago and some of the donuts were a hit and some were a miss. Also, it was time consuming and messy. I just cracked open the can, cut them and put them in the oil. I know that you aren't suppose to use vegetable but it worked just fine. They were fantastic!!! Light and fluffy, but they still had some body to them. I topped some with a glaze, some with melted chocolate and nuts, and some with cinnamon sugar. I also put some with agave syrup for my diabetic father. I never expected donut making to be this easy. Will definitely be making again and again.

This recipe is delicious. I made them for the super bowl and they were a huge hit. EVERYONE loved them. My husband was eating them as they were coming out of the fryer. I had run him out of my kitchen in order to finish making the donuts. Which meant I had to send him off with a batch for himself. They couldn't get enough. I would have never thought that canned biscuits would make such good donuts, but they work perfectly. I will be making these again.

I can't believe how well this recipe worked. I gave it 4 stars only because it's just shy of tasting like a coffee shop donut. The donut itself is not as sweet as a tradtional donut, which is great, because the sweetness of the glaze balances the flavor. This will be in the regular rotation of desserts.

I was hoping for good and we got delicious! I'm surprised at how good these are! I used the vanilla frosting for the donut holes and chocolate for the donuts, then covered them with sprinkles. They are also super easy and quick to make. Will make again!

I have made these since childhood except I take the doughnut and cut it into fourths that way I get more and it is like doughnut holes. I love the toppings you gave as I usually just put powdered sugar in a bag and shook it up. Thanks for the new toppings....Grandkids loved!!!!!

I can't say anything about the icings because I haven't tried those yet. And like most others, I was too excited to start to wait on peanut oil so I used fresh vegetable oil I already had. I also cooked mine at 375 degrees because that's the temperature my deep fryer recommends for donuts. They were amazing. One thing I did do was roll them around in some melted butter to get the sugar and cinnamon to stick better. So, so good! I'm going to make more tonight and the icings for my lucky co-workers. We gobbled the holes up and the donuts are so big and messy I'm making only holes this time. Use a slim shot glass and you can get at least 6 holes from one biscuit.
