If anyone from FoodNetwork.com is watching these comments, the wasabi dip part is gone from this recipe. It's just a basic piece of salmon on a plank now...

I was a little skeptical at first but this was an amazing flavor. The wasabi dip was an excellent addition.

My boyfriend and I don't care for salmon, but I think this might be good if I used a different fish. Does anyone know what fish would work well with the added flavor from the cedar plank?

Following the recipe, the salmon was bland and underdone when baked in the oven. Modified as follows....

Raised the temperture to 475, and oven setting to roast to provide heat to both sides of the salmon. Preheated the cedar plank for 10 minutes to release the aromatics. Roasted the salmon about 15 minutes till there was a slight char to the fish (and the cedar plank.

I marinated the salmon 30-60 minutes in soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil oil, and garlic for a little more flavor and color.

Scored/slashed the side of salmon about half way through at location of serving slices. Helps with cooking through and the salmon does not break up nearly as much when slicing after cooking.

Presented the whole plank of salmon to the table with the aromas of the cedar. Served table side with wasabi dip and cranberry/walnut wild rice. Accompanied with WillKenzie Oregon Pinot Gris

Couldn't be simpler for a showy presentation.

There is something about cooking on cedar plank that offers both superior taste and fun in preparation. This is a superior recipe.

The salmon was alright, but it was boring. The cedar plank didn't add that much. I'm love wasabi with sushi, and I couldn't get used to the light, fluffy wasabi dip. I can see how some people would like it, though. Personally, the recipe from Giada de Laurentis on Everday Italian for a mustard-glazed salmon was much better.
