I thought they tasted good, but two other people didn't care for them. I did add a tiny bit of garlic and left out the cayenne pepper. I could barely get it to squeeze out of the bag so I hand rolled it. They flattened out in the oven and looked more like cheese bread sticks. Oh and hand mixer does not work. I put the mixture inside the plastic bag and smashed it together and that worked good.

My family loved these! I did add 1 cup grated romano cheese to the dough and also sprinkled some on top of the straws prior to cooking..

Not the best I ever had. Mine also were as if I did something wrong and tasted like cooked flour and burnt cheese. Very hard to squeeze from the bag almost like a dough. Sorry but my family did not care for them at all.

When I saw this on her show, I knew I HAD to make these for my guests. It was a HUGE hit. It was actually very easy to make and I had no trouble squeezing it out of the bag. I'm not sure why others were having issues, but I had none. They were very delicious and they disappeared quick. I served this with her Three Cheese Hot Artichoke Dip and that too disappeared quick! So delicious! I'll be making this again for sure.

Just to say Paula Deen is my favorite Food Network cook,I hope one day to get meet her. I'm also looking forward to visiting The Lady And Son's, in the near future. I've tried many of Paula's recipe's and they have been a hit. However this cheese straw recipe, was awful. Paula needs to go back to the drawing board on this one. I followed the recipe to the letter and when I tried the cheese straws, was the nastiest thing ever. They also would not squeeze out of the bag, so hand rolled them. I was going to serve them for my New Years party 2012, glad I made them early. Now I'm back to the drawing board to find another appetizer to serve. Just a note: I've been cooking since I was 10yrs old, and learned to cook from my mother(RIP who was a astonishing cook. She too loved watching Paula Deen and making her recipes. Followed the recipe I found using my iPhone app. I had also seen the segment on TV. Batter was really a dough. I couldn't get it to squeeze through the bag so I rolled it out and cut it with a pizza cutter. I see where others have had the same problem and yet others got it to squeeze just fine. I had my butter and cheese at room temperature, but maybe my room isn't warm enough? I don't know what else is the problem.
The crackers are tasty but a bit salty so I would leave out any additional salt. There's already enough salt in the cheese and butter.
Somebody wanted to know what to serve them with--the Hot Artichoke Dip that Paula made on the same show is perfect with it. That dip is terrific and a perfect match with these straw/crackers.

Didn't come out how I thought they would. They did not squeeze out of the bag (I had to hand roll the sticks and they were really floury.

No Southern Lady would Ever Not Serve Cheese Straws.Delicious,Easy and Variation Abound~Pecans are Very Easy to "pipe" w/batter.Reminds of a Famous Cheese Cracker spent Sooo Much Money On Till Now. These are reccommended along w/Miss Ina's myriad of "Crackers".Both Recipes A Permanent "go to".

Great the trick is to make sure everything is at room temp. I use good white chedder and added 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder. For traveling in the fifth wheel these are the type of items that are good after a day of golf when we all brag about how great we were out on the course. Food network how about a show for those of us that travel alot in our houses on wheels. Love all the shows. I'm sure I could help with ideas.
