I just love Paula and I watched her make these pushing the cheese thru a baggie! Well it didn't work for me that way. I finally had to roll them out by hand but they were still good just not a quick way as shown on tv. MIffed but eating them.

I used the recipe from her Paula Deen Celebrates cookbook. (I missed this show It calls for two cups grated sharp cheddar, two sticks of butter, 2 cups of self rising flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne and bakes for 12 mins. at 350 degrees. I made them for a party and they were gobbled up fast with everyone wanting the recipe.

The recipe on here isn't the same recipe Paula did on her show. This one works and is delish:

    Cheese Straws

1 cup (2 sticks butter, at room temperature
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar, at room temperature
    2 Cups self-rising flour
    1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
    1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Sift together flour, salt and cayenne pepper into a bowl, set aside. In another bowl, add butter and cheddar cheese and mix until creamy. Slowly beat in flour mixture, a scoop at a time, until blended.

Add cheese straw batter to plastic bag with corner cut out. Put the batter into bag and squeeze onto cookie sheet, two rows of batter, or add another layer, whatever you like.

Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly browned.

    Your welcome :-

This was a very easy and taste receipe. The hardest part was using the cookie press, but that was my equipment, not the receipe. The taste was wondreful. Very simple, and quick to make up. Will make these again.

I TRIED THIS RECIPE USING THE SELF RISING FLOUR, AS PAULA DEMONSTRATED. IT TASTED MORE LIKE FLOUR STICKS. THE CREAM CHEESE AND CHEESE WERE DROWNED OUT BY THE AMOJNT OF FLOUR. I MIGHT TRY THESE AGAIN, BUT I WOULD DECREASE THE AMOUNT OF FLOUR, AND SEE HOW THAT IS. ALSO LESS CR. CHEESE, SAME AMOUNT OF SHARP CHEDDAR.

I made these using the TV method and, even using unsalted butter, these were WAY too salty for us. We took a few bites and ended up throwing the whole batch in the trash. I can see how they would be good with about half the salt called for, but I won't be trying them again anytime soon.

These are good, I've made Paula's reipe for "zesty cheese straws" which is exactly the same but uses 1/4 tsp cayenne.
