Ingredients
- Butter
- 12 slices white bread
- 8 large slices deli ham
- 4 bananas, sliced on the bias
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar
- 2 cups crushed potato chips
- 6 slices cooked and crumbled bacon
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup cream
- Pinch freshly grated nutmeg
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Butter a 9 by 13 glass baking dish. Butter both sides of the bread and layer 6 of them into the bottom of the baking dish, overlapping them as necessary but keep them even. Layer the slices of ham on top of the bread and then the bananas, 6 more slices of bread, then the cheese, potato chips, and bacon. In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, cream, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Pour this over the casserole almost to the top. Bake for 45 minutes until brown and bubbly. Cut into squares and remove with a spatula, like lasagna

I love this casserole! It's different than your run of the mill breakfast casseroles, and the bananas give it a slightly sweet taste.

LOVED this recipe! I don't eat pork, so substituted the ham with 1 package of deli turkey and turkey bacon. Absolutely delicious! I think if one follows the recipe exactly (using the right size baking pan etc... it comes out correctly. I used only two bananas as they were fairly large, and sliced them thinly. Definitely a repeater meal and loved by all.

This was a very interesting recipe and tried it out on just my husband................I wanted to test it out first, to make sure I liked it, before I served it to guests. You never know, ever ones tastes buds are different and I didn't want a disaster. Turns out, even my husband liked it and I'll try it out on my family at the next family function. I've read some of the reviews, and it sounds to me that people should think about such different food combinations that they might not like, before trying out a recipe for the first time for guests..........I have no sympathy for people who don't like a recipe they serve to guests, before trying it out, experimenting with it, first. Also, if you don't feel you would like a banana in this recipe, try pinapple, instead.............even Paula, herself, said she couldn't believe how many people put pinapple on pizza.......taste buds are all relative..........
