I've never had chicken & dumplings before, I was expecting the dumplings to come out puffy, but I got large noodles. I think it wasn't thick enough, so the dumplings sank and didn't rise again. Regardless, it was the best chicken soup I've ever had. Even my 5-yr-old liked it and he never eats anything that isn't a sandwich! Lots of flavor, fairly easy, I will be making this again.

My husband has always thought his mother's chicken and dumplings were the finest until I made this recipe! I was skeptical regarding the bay leaves but Wow! it gave it a punch of flavor! The dumplings went together like magic and unlike his mother's recipe were totally without added (unnecessaryfat. Doubling the dumpling amount also worked giving more delicious dumplings. I added a bit more salt and pepper to taste when serving but not obligatory. It can be made relatively quickly or simmer all day if necessary.

This is a great recipe for beginners. I've tried for years to make dumplings and they always fell apart. I didn't stir the dumplings and they didn't fall apart! It taste just like my Mom's! Thanks Paula!

I loved this recipe as well with a few changes. I used bisquicks recipe for dumplings, about half of the water and three times the amount of house seasoning. It turned out FABULOUS!!!

Was surprised to find that this recipe missed the mark. The flavor was missing something. I love Paula and her recipe's and have used many of her recipe's with great success. Cooked this recipe to feed visiting family and we ended up going out to eat.

I liked this recipe a lot, but I think the 4 quarts of water are a bit much. I had thickened the chicken and dumplings according the recipe instructions at the end (by adding the 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1/4 cup of water, but it was still too soupy for my liking. The flavor, however, was fantastic! The taste was excellent. I'll definitely make this again, but I think I'll use less water than called for.

My husband always raved about his former wife's chicken and dumplings and all of my attemps were failures next to hers, but finally a recipe that not only is as good, but according to him 'better.' I only used 2 quarts of water and added 2 large carrots. I used the Bisquick dumpling recipe. Great dish. I finally did it! Thanks to Paula Dean.
