At best this is chicken soup with dumplins. If you"re looking for traditional southern chicken and dumplings keep looking.

Great Recipe! I found that if I let it simmer on very low heat for an hour longer after adding and cooking the dumplings, the broth thickens AND the dumplings are even more divine!

A good basic recipe. Like many the other reviewers I couldn't get the gravy to be thick enough, initially. I added the 2 tablespoons of corn starch and still, no change. I ending up adding about 6 tablespoons of corn starch and let the stew simmer with the top off for a bout an hour between de-boning the chicken and adding the dumpling dough. I adding extra garlic salt, because it was a little bland for my taste, as well as about 2 teaspoons of poultry seasoning.

I made this a few days ago and I loved it, for those who rated it bland I'm not sure what they did wrong but it taste great! HOWEVER I will agree that it's more than a broth than than a gravy. After cooking, I removed about 1/4 of the liquid and used some of the broth and flour to make a gravy which thikened it. My husband and children loved it! I also added carrots to increase the vegetables contents.

It was very good. I loved it! My husband, however, said that the dumplings were supposed to be round balls instead of just strips of dough... I would definitely cook it again but maybe alter the dumplings to balls. Thank you!

Amazing recipe.. It was the perfect comfort food for a relaxing day at home. I added a couple more spices to give it a little kick, but it is a easy and delicious Chicken and dumplings soup.

This doesn't even deserve a 1 star rating. I am sorry I have lived in the south my WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE and I have NEVER had "chicken and dumplings" as poor as these. It's a soup. It has no flavor it is very bland. I have not once ever in my life time had chicken and dumping this runny ever! It's horrible. Do not waste your time. It is not creamy it is not thick it is RUNNY like running water runny. Do not make this. I should have learned from her horrible baked macaroni not to trust this fake southern cooker.

This was pretty good, but I really was not expecting to have to tweak a true Southern, Paula Deen recipe AS I cooked in order to make it work. As many others have said, it was very watery. I noticed this after I doubled the "cream of soups"... I did both cream of chicken and cream of celery. After adding those, it did not thicken up, so I ladled out 4 cups of the broth and froze it for future use. Then I added a can of cream of mushroom and some flour to thicken it. It helped a little bit. I did not make the House seasoning, but instead just seasoned it as I wanted (salt, pepper, garlic salt. I also used Sea Salt and Roasted Garlic when making the dumplings, instead of just regular salt.

The recipe was flavorful, satisfying, comforting, aromatic and in all, great. There is no doubt that it needs tweaking, though.

Horrendous recipe. I thought Chicken and Dumplings was supposed to have a more gravy-like consistency. This turned out to be a "soup" more than a gravy. I am very upset that I wasted a whole chicken on this recipe which turned out to be crap. I even followed the directions (using 3 quarts of water instead of 4 (seemed like too much water imo AND adding cornstarch to thicken verbatim. Still turned out more like a chicken soup. In hindsight I wish I would have had noodles on hand to make a soup, instead of the crap it turned into.
This recipe made me not want to try any of Paula Deen's recipes in the future, I was so upset with it.
I recommend everyone search out a different Chicken and Dumpling recipe and fore-go this one.
