never made chicken fried steak before, and Miss Paula Deen and her recipes have never failed me, so when my husband asked me to look it up, I knew where to go...and again she hasnt let me down! They scraped the skillet clean!

In my opinion and from my experience in trying out a good deal of Ms. Paula's recipes... I'd say that to everyone that disliked it, you either A. don't like or have never tasted true Southern cooking. or B. just don't have a knack for Southern cooking and ya did it Wrong.... because I have made this same recipe several times for MANY different people, and I have never heard nothing bad about it : XOXOXO

My husband and I tried this yesterday. The flavor of everything was AWESOME! We tweeked it a big because we are both from the south but aren't used to eating lots of greasy or fried things, but we were craving Chicken Fried steak!

Our gravy was amazing! It was our favorite part!

schettly, you're confused because you are reviewing the wrong recipe. Paula has more than one CFS recipe on here, and this is the one from the Throwdown with Bobby Flay that used brown gravy, NOT the one from her show that used white gravy.

I don't like white gravy at all, so that probably colors my opinion of this recipe.

Hey Guys, whats the big deal with the MSG? I totally agree but just omit it. It doesn't need it anyway. I quit using it a long time ago because of the side affects. Don't get all riled up, chill!

I cut the salt in half... and added some 1percent milk to thin out and used it later in the day for mashed potatoes and we are going to try it in Chicken soup!

To those of you who comment prior about the amount of salt and MSG as well as the authenticity of this recipe, you must be really, really board! Maybe just not good cooks!? Any good cook knows that you can do something called MODIFICATION to any recipe. I don't always use a recipe to a tee, I change it up according to what my family and I prefer. I use a recipe as a "baseline" and change it up. As far as authenticity, just because you are used to something one way does not mean that it HAS to be prepared this way or do NOT call it whatever you are calling it. To me it is kinda like Tomato Sauce, EVERYONE MAKES IT DIFFERENT BUT CALLS IT THE SAME DARN THING, SPAGHETTI SAUCE! What the heck is the difference; furthermore, if you do not care for the recipe, don't make it again, quit whining!
