I love Biscuit and Gravy so I am sure I could love Chili in a Bisquit Bowl.

How do I get a Dutch oven if I don't live in the Netherlands?

This chili was so good! I didn't make the bread bowls, and instead opted to serve with homemade cornbread. The only things I doctored from the recipe were to add some cumin and garlic powder to taste. Definitely going in my recipe box :

Excellent. I've made this wonderful recipe for years. Great for those cold autumn evenings! If I can't find the mexican-style tomatoes, I use the italian-style, and the difference in taste is not noticeable.

This turns out super every time! I use 1tbsp cayenne pepper and 1 tbsp cumin in place of the chili powder.

Wonderful!! However, make the chili first as the bowls will get too hard if you wait. Also, skip the Cayenne and add more chili powder. Cayenne is way too hot for my family but chili powder is not. Cayenne to me is way too hot for anything, except the bugs in my garden who hate it and so do I. Anyway, another good recipe from Paula if you amend it a little.

maybe others haven't used the correct ingredients (mexican spiced tomatoes or the correct amounts (2 tablespoons of chili powder but I went blind on this recipe assuming it would be mild enough to feed my picky elderly grandmother, since so many reviewers were complaining it wasn't spicy. suffice it to say, I was shocked when I took a bite and my tastebuds were almost overwhelmed - and I LOVE spicy food (I order my wings hot! unfortunately it was too late for me to make anything else, so she gamely ate some and made due with a dinner of mostly vegetables and the biscuit bowl. personally, I think it's a great amount of spice! but for all of you who think it's not spicy enough, are you sure you're making it properly???

also, next time I make it, I'm going to vary the bowls to be cornbread instead of biscuit mix. :

My familly loved this recipe. The chili is not spicy, so even my preschoolers could enjoy it (easily add some hot sauce at the table. I also added a finely diced carrot and celery for a little extra nutrition and sweetness. I used all organic ingredients in the chili and Heart Smart Bisquick mix for the bowls (doubled the recipe for leftover biscuits.
The next morning, I served the chili in biscuit bowls with over medium eggs, as a spin off from Huevos Rancheros. The kids LOVED it almost as much as I did!!!

Beware.......... The recipe for the chili is very weak and nothing like real chili should taste.( see other reviews for comments The biscuit bowls will not work for an appitizer for finger foods. Chili dripping everywhere is not a good idea. If made in advance, the bowl will get soggy. I suggest finding a good recipe for chili and serve with cornbread.

I made this for superbowl and it was a hit! I made the chili exactly the same and also added Cumin and Mexican Chorizo. I wish I had added some jalapeno or cayanne because it wasn't spicy at all but still very good. (I have not had a lot of chili in my life so I can't comment on how authentic it is, but it was good for my guests The chili cups were such a great presentation and I also liked that it was a clean way to eat chili without worrying about dirtying bowls and spoons. I did not make the biscuit mix I bought Grand Biscuits and was able to peel 3 layers from each biscuit, so a can of 8 made 24 cups. I used a mini muffin tray and it was the perfect size. I had no issues with the bowls getting soggy, they held up all day. Lastly, I did not use a dutch oven I used my pasta pot and it worked well, I have a Hard Anodized set and it browned and cooked perfectly in there.
