Ingredients

  • 1 head Napa or bok choy cabbage
  • 3 green onions
  • 1 (3-ounce) package ramen noodles with seasoning pack
  • 1 (6-ounce) package slivered almonds
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat the broiler.

Tear the cabbage and slice the onions, and place in a large salad bowl. Crumble the noodles into a broiler pan, add the almonds, sesame seeds, and broil for 2 minutes, being careful not to scorch the sesame seeds. In a jar with a tight lid, combine the oil, sugar, vinegar, and salt with the contents of the seasoning pack. Cover the jar and shake well to blend the dressing. Pour the dressing over the salad, add the toasted sesame and almond, and toss to combine.

    LOOOOOOOOOVE!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I was looking for this recipe forever after having it at a friend of mine's party. Its the same recipe and tastes just like... it! I did change it a bit though, I used more almonds, and they weren't regular they are smoked almonds straight from the can. it adds a really nice smokey flavor and adds to the overall taste. I recommend doing that! I also used splenda instead of sugar it i couldn't taste the difference. Saves on calories! I also used regular cabbage. awesome :) THANKS PAULA!Read more

I agree...way better than it looks at first glance!

I made this for the first time last night after receiving bok choy from my local CSA, and it was surprisingly good! I halved... it but didn't make any other changes except for using toasted sesame seeds instead of toasting my own with the noodles and almonds. I used the Oriental Ramen noodles and the flavor packet worked well in the dressing although I didn't use it all. I served it with Rachael Ray's BBQ Chinese Chicken Lettuce Wraps for a wonderful, complete meal.Read more

Sound awful but it's awful yummy

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made this a while ago and it was really good. Then I forgot about it until I needed a recipe for a potluck at a campground... in Florida. I got all the stuff to make it but never went to the potluck. So later in the week I made it for my sister and brother-in law. They thought it sounded awful, but I made it anyway.Since I am a diabetic I used Splenda instead of sugar. As it turns out, my husband, my sister and my brother-in-law each had secondhelping. They would have more but they were stuffed. Now I am making if for Easter dinner with my ham. Let's see if the kids will eat it. I bet they will. Thanks Paula for another great recipe.Read more

    the noodles make it

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I have made this twice. My teenager wanted more noodles. So the last time I added 5 pckgs, browning one at a time in fry pan... and more sesame seeds.Break up the noodles in the closed package. I used rice wine vinegar and a little honey with the sugar. The ramen packet( full of sodium) tasted yucky, so added just a pinch to the dressing and some vegetable seasoning . A touch of sesame oil to the vegetable oil made it more flavorful. Shrimp or beef go great in it- makes it a meal.Read more

    I get requests often

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
My personalizations: I melt one tbl spoon butter, add the flavor packet to dissolve. I toss in 2 packages of ramen noodles... and SLICED almonds and toss to coat. Onto parchment in 325 oven for 12 minutes, toss once half way. In Paula's dressing I put the other packet of ramen season and three dashes of Worstershire. I use the sliced almonds because they stick to cabbage and not sit at the bottom of the bowl. They beg for this salad at pot lucks. Never a leaf of cabbage left. Read more

    Great Great Great!

A friend gave me this recipe...I make it with bagged broccoli slaw instead of cabbage and drizzle it with a bit of sesame oil... before serving. Everyone just loves it. Tastes terrific as a leftover, too. Yummy! Read more
