This recipe has a texture which is unpleasant. No matter how much you whip it, it still has the little chunks of the ricotta cheese, which is not what is expected in a cream pie. When you add all of the crunchy factors, it is okay, but not as wonderful as is anticipated with Paula's recipes.

The ricotta cheese just didn't belong in this recipe, especially since I'm so used to banana cream pies that are just that - CREAMY, not ricotta cheese textured. I appreciated that it wasn't too sweet though, if I could find a decent substitute for the ricotta cheese I might eat this again.

This pie sounded like a good idea, but when I read the reviews, I was slightly reticent about trying it. However, I'm so glad that I read the reviews, because they gave me an idea of what I should add/switch out in order to make the pie taste excellent (since apparently the recipe as it is produces questionable results. So yeah- I used only 1/2 cup of *sweetened* cocoa powder and 2 tubs (16oz of mascarpone (in place of the ricotta. That was all I did differently, and the pie was super tasty. Unlike most reviewer's results, mine was not gritty, nor was it bitter. I must admit that the pie is quite filling though, but who really needs to eat more than one piece in a sitting anyways.
All in all, I would recommend this recipe and I would probably make it again.

This pie was not what I expected. I made it for dessert for halloween everyone was excited by it. They all took one bite and didn't eat any more. I was thinking of making this pie for Thanksgiving but after this experience I will not. The combination of bananas and cocoa was not a hit.

I used fresh Bananas to top off the Chocolate Banana Pie. Add the Fresh Bananas last minute just before serving so they don't turn brown on you.
I think this really made a great difference for thoes of us that really enjoy Bananas.
5 stars and a 10 all the way around.

My family and I were very excited to try this recipe. But we were very surprised at how bitter it was, we ended up throwing it out.

I was surprised that I didn't care for this recipe. The texture wasn't pleasant to the palate and it was too heavy for a dessert.
