I made these for my two grandchildren, ages 3 and 6. The large canned biscuits worked well and we made donut holes using a "Loving Cup" we got on a Royal Caribbean cruise. My 3 year old grand daughter shook the fried donut holes in cinnamon and sugar. The chocolate frosting took a long time to thicken, but it finally did. The kiddies added sprinkles to the tops. I also used corn oil, as both children are allergic to nuts. I'd make these again. Thanks Paula!

Not sure of the kind of biscuits everyone else used but I used Grands. Next time I will cut them in half. They were good but not too good left over. I also used to the left over chocolate for ice cream and fudge!

My kids had fun making these with me. They're simple and tasty. The chocolate sauce makes a lot so we put half in the freezer and the kids have been using it for sauce on ice cream warmed up.

After reading previous reviews, I decided to skip the homemade frosting and just buy a jar of frosting from the store. I also used Canola Oil, once I saw that Peanut Oil was $15! Following Paula's directions, I made 8 dounuts. They were delicious. I don't see myself buying donuts from a bakery again. They were fun to make and even more fun to eat!

Paula you Rock. These are so simple to make and they are awesome. The recipe for the chocolate makes a lot. Not sure if it will keep or not but I am going to try.

I made just the chocolate sauce and I had some left over so I put some penut butter in it and put it in the fridge for an hour or so. I took it out and it was like a chocolate-penut butter spread it was so good!

Why do people criticize a doughnut recipe for having too many calories or too much fat? If it is a concern for you, don't look at doughnuts, candies, desserts, etc. Sort of like a vegetarian complaining that a pot roast recipe calls for meat.

These were good but I wish I would have read the reviews first then I wouldnt have been so concerned about the frosting not hardening.I did use peanut oil and that worked great.In the past I used a different oil(and recipe and it seemed to make the doughnuts darker and not taste so good.These were good but I was looking for a different kind of frosting and it did taste like pudding!!

Every fall, we visit the local cidar mill to get hot fresh donuts and cold apple cidar. The donuts there are the best in the world and these donuts almost tasted the same!! I will say next time I make these, I'll be sure to buy the larger size canned biscuits. I bought the smaller can and had to smush 2 or 3 together to make a decent full sized donut. Good thing I bought 3 cans because we devoured them lickety split! I rolled mine in cinnamon and sugar and powdered sugar - didn't make Paula's chocolate sauce. I don't think they need it, they're honestly that good, you can eat them plain. I'm going to make these when I have overnight guests - it will knock their socks off!

Made these with my granddaughter. It was a blast, but the frosting is more like pudding. And the recipe makes WAY to much frosting. I made 10 doughnuts and had at least 75% of the frosting left over. I really didn't like it, and couldn't figure out what to do with the leftovers, so I just threw it away. I generally love Paula's recipes, but she does sometimes have you make a whole lot of something that goes into a recipe (fillings and frostings are usually the culprits and then you use only a bit of it in the recipe. Wasteful.
