These were and are the best doughnuts i've ever made. I didn't use peanut oil, good ole canola oil does just as well. I made 2 tubs of the biscuits and all of them were gone yup 20 doughnuts all gone. My two kids, mom, brother, sister and even my dog Spike had one. Yupper this one is staying......not the frosting though i used NOTHING!!!!!

Can you use other oils other than Peanut Oil? Peanut Oil is $18.00 and I am looking for an alternative if possible.

We have been making these for years.......My mom and grandma made them for us when we were young.....
Very good several different ways......As for the chocolate icing, you can also use can icing, put it in a bowl and stir it and make it thin.....then dip the donut into it......
You can also use powered sugar on them....yummmmyyyyyyyy....
So lets use the KISS way of doing them.....KEEP IT SIMPLE SWEETIE...!!!!!!!!

My dad used to do this for us when I was a kid. He used a thimble to punch out the middle of the donut. It's much easier to just poke a hole and stretch it out a little. Local grocer had a 10 for $10 sale on canned biscuits, so I loaded up. Tried all different varieties, and all turned out good. Canned breadstick dough was a little tough, though. My kids LOVED this and have asked for it every morning this week. Not a single donut went to waste. If a couple were left over, they ate them when they came in from school. I set out 3 bowls of toppings - pwd sugar icing, Paula's chocolate icing and sugar or sugar/cinnamon - and the kids enjoyed dipping them themselves. Leftover chocolate icing has been used on ice cream and fruited meringues.

The doughnuts were really easy to make but the frosting took FOREVER and wasn't that good. I'd make the doughnuts again but change the frosting.

Not really worth the calories. Some doughnuts were a little doughy and "biscuit" tasting. Frosting was good, but never hardened...I don't think it was supposed to though. :

My husband loved the doughnuts. Instead of using chocolate, I shook them in cinnamon and sugar and they were Great!

I am planning to make these tonight, and I am just wondering why it says to use peanut oil? Does it make a huge different in flavor or texture or something? I have regular corn oil that I was planning to use...

I'll let you know what we think! I am sure it will be delicious, it sure looks it!
