I just love all the flavors in this recipe. The cumin gives it that mexican food flavor. And the salsa is out of this world. The salsa would be great with chicken or even tortilla chips! If you want a different twist on steak, then definitely try it!

The steak just did not do it for me so it gets a thumbs down. If you must try it you may just want to marinade HALF of the steak...I wish I had!

However the salsa was an interestingly fantastic surprise that one is a keeper!

I followed the recipe for the flank steak exactly and marinated overnight It was yummy and super moist, but next time I am going to increase the amount of chili powder for a bit more heat.

For the Pineapple Salsa - I added two diced jalapeno peppers and a small diced tomato - again I like heat and the tomato added a bit more color. I would also suggest replacing the diced tomato with a diced red bell pepper. The pepper will add a bit more crunchy texture similar to the onion.

I know it sounds odd, but it was really good. I didn't really taste the chocolate very much, but the combination of the chili powder and the chocolate was a great duo. I grilled on the bbq, don't know if that would make a big difference. The pineapple salsa was good, but could use a little punch. Next time I would use some jalapeno pepper and more lime juice. Overall the salsa was still very good. Thank you Paula for a recipe to shake things up a bit.

My family consists of steak-eaters and I would definitely say we were all a bit disappointed. I'm not sure if it was because we cooked the steaks on the grill, but the meat was very bland. Tender, but bland. If, IF, I ever do decide to try this recipe again, I'll just have to cook it in a skillet with a lot of butter. Amazing. This is the first time Paula Deen did not win me over :(

This was absolutely wonderful!! Definitely a family favorite. The only thing different I would do is add a little more spice to it since my family loves spicy foods. I got this recipe from her magazine on Chocolate. She also has other wonderful recipes that you can do with chocolate. I have recommended this recipe to my friends and everyone can't believe you can cook a steak with chocolate! I tell them 'don't judge just try it!'. The pineapple salsa compliments the steak very well!!!

The mix of chocolate-sweet--with spicy was so delicious as a steak marinade!! We used chili flavored oil instead of regular olive oil and that gave it an extra boost of flavor too. The pineapple salsa was a hit--it complimented the steak so well! Added jicama and kiwi to the salsa in addition to the fresh pineapple, avocado, cilantro, etc. Such a great recipe!! We wowed the family with this one.

I couldn't disagree more about the salsa comments in the previous review....I thought it was fantastic and it complimented the flank streak wonderfully. It is refreshing and a great blend of flavors. I think the salsa would also be good with fish such as topping for tilapia. I have made this twice in 2 weeks and my family loves it.

Tried the steak marinade and the mixture of chocolate and spices made for a very nice diversion from the typical steak meal. B+ to A- on this recipe. I would definitely use it again!

The salsa on the other hand----well----it was one of the more expensive food experiments that I have truly disliked. I will likely never go to the effort of mixing this up ever again. Funny--on the show it looked good and Paula and her guest indicated it was good. Guess people will do anything for ratings. I give this one an F!

Bought her Chocolate Magazine about a year ago & tried this recipe out of sheer curiosity Being a chocoholic, I thought I'd try making it. Never would have thought it would be as good as it is. The pineapple salsa compliments the steak perfectly! I have shared this recipe with many people and they feel the same way.

I always look forward to Paula's recipes - haven't made one that I haven't liked!
