First off, I made mine with a spice cake mix since that was all I had. The taste was OK and probably would have been better with the chocolate. Overall, the cookie had a taste and texture that seemed like a cake mix and would not fool most people into thinking it was made from scratch. I have had the gooey butter cakes and really liked them - the cookies are not as good.

I was not sure if we were supposed to put the oil in the recipe like the other viewers, so I left it out. I probably would not have made the recipe if it required oil, its already fattening enough with butter and cream cheese. I thought the cookies tasted like chocolate cupcakes in a cookie form. I ended up keeping the dough in the fridge overnight because it was so sticky it was difficult to work with. Even though the cookies were refrigerated that long they were really messy to roll into balls! This was definately not my familys favorite cookie and I would not make them again. But they were worth a try!

I am in agreement with other viewers that something was missing. Perhaps the oil. I found the recipe was not the chewy, gooey cookies I expected. It was more like a devils food cake cookie. But good nonetheless.

Really good & very easy to make. Don't taste like gooey butter cake, though.

These were a huge hit with my family. Next time I'll skip adding the additional powdered sugar at the end. It made them too sweet.

Maybe the best cookie on the planet! I want to try it with other flavors of cake - such as lemon or cherry.

These cookies might just be the best tasting thing I have ever put in my mouth! They were FABULOUS! So simple too which is always a plus. I always love every recipe by Paula but this might be one of my favorites!
