I'm made the Martha Stewart version of these before (from her Everyday Food magazine which are from scratch so perhaps my expectations were too high but these were very bland. I was not impressed. Since they are a pretty time consuming cookie to make anyway I would rather spend the extra few minutes to make them from scratch next time. I was very disappointed.

The name of the cookie was a little misleading... or maybe it was just me, I was expecting gooey like in the name but they were just like little cakes, which is fine b/c rather than eat a whole slice of anything I'd rather have a little bite of this and that... but gooey they weren't. They tasted like a boxed cake made into little cookies, and if you look at the ingredients, that's what one should expect after all. VERY easy to make.

I have a confession: I am a great cook BUT a terrible baker. I took a chance on this recipe and it came out fantastic. I can graduate out of the slice and bake cookie dough club with this gem! Everyone loved the cookies and they stayed fresh for a very long time if kept in airtight containers. Follow the recipe exactly and do not over-bake. I will be making them again soon.

Made them for a Christmas party and everyone loved them. I did roll them in powdered sugar twice. Thank you for such a great recipe Paula!

O, and for a twist, roll them in hard sugar- sugar in the raw, makes then crunchy on the outside!

Made these last night, very easy and I loved the chocolate and cream cheese flavor! I am going to try using a lemon cake (as mentioned below the next time!

These were very pretty to look at and very disappointing to eat. Bland, bland, bland.

I hate to go against the tide, but I am not a fan of these cookies. They look just like the pictures but I do not like the flavor at all.....should have known that anything that started with a boxed cake would turn out like this. Will never make again!!! YUCK!!! Sorry Paula:((

Made several batches last year or Chrstmas, they are great. Thi year the store was out of chocolate so I got German chocolate.....they were not nearly as good as with the regular chocolate mix, FYI!
