It's my son's 17th Birthday. He has been wanting a homemade chocolate cake. I didn't have the actual Hershey's chocolate syrup so I made homemade syrup. I have to say I just took it out of the oven and I know I made it for him but I want to bury my face in it. I'm saving the chocolate syrup that was left over so he can have it. After it cools I will ice it and set it aside till later. I can't wait to eat it!

Very good cake, and icing as well. Paired together, however, the cake was chocolate overload for me. Next time I will add in some flavoring to either the cake or frosting so that the two compliment one another rather than over-power each other.

Very Tasty. I ran out of butter so instead of using the frosting, I used a chocolate ganache. Superb: Thank you Paula Dean

I love Paula Deen! However, this cake tasted horrible!! The icing was good, but the cake had a really funny flavor. I will be throwing it out! What a waste!

i was craving a chocolate dessert one night and found this. i modified several things. i wanted something so bad that i scraped the bottom of the barrel of my ingredients to make it. for starters i used a 9 x 9 pan. so i had to cook it for 35 min. i didn't have enough butter and barely enough sugar. therefore the frosting had less sugar like many other reviews suggested. success. for the frosting i used milk. still great. most importantly, i realized i had no chocolate syrup! how was i to make a chocolate cake sans chocolat? i scoured the internet for a recipe. cocoa powder, sugar, and water. boil it up and its syrup. i added that in this recipe. i then realized that i never actually calculated how much syrup it made and it was too late, it was already mixed with the rest. luckily for me, the 1.5 cups of water i added for the syrup is just under 16oz. result of my cake....FANTASTIC!
completely satisfied my craving. chocolate cake for breakfast? i think so!

I wanted to make my husband dinner complete with dessert when I came across this recipe. He's the cook in the family. Anyway, I made this cake and he loved it. I also make this cake for office parties and it's always a hit. I made it around Thanksgiving last year for an office luncheon and when we had our Christmas party, my supervisor specifically requested that I make it again. It's pretty easy to make and it really is delicious. It's definitely a keeper.

It was sooo delicious! But all that chocolate is no good on the tummy, especially when you want to eat more than one piece at a time. I substituted the evaporated milk with regular milk and it still turned out delicious. Looks nice too!

That "candied" frosting smoothly glides over the cake, providing an elegantly simple and tasty dessert!

I was looking for a recipe to make for my birthday and stumbled across this one. I knew I had to try it out because first off it's chocolate and second my name is Sybil too! Hopefully it will taste as good as it sounds.

OMG, this is THE BEST chocolate cake recipe!!!! So easy to make and soooooo flavorful/MOIST!!!! The ganache is "da bomb" and I certainly prefer it over the fluffy, sugary icings. : : I LOVE this cake and so does my family : Thank you, Ms. Paula and Sybil : :
