I made this with a rum sauce instead of the chocolate sauce and it was amazing!!!

I made this recipe yesterday and it was a HUGE hit. Even my daughter, who says she doesn't even like bread pudding.....Loved this one!!! I did make a few changes. I used double the nutmeg and excluded the mace. After reading previous ratings, that stated this recipe was too bland.... I also used sweetened coconut milk instead of unsweetened and added a 1/4 c of splender to the mixture before I poured it over the bread. It did not make this recipe too sweet....it was just perfect. A definite winner in our family. I will be making this again for sure. Thanks again Paula :

Tried this despite the bad reviews because I don't like overly sweet desserts. Well, the other reviews are right just no flavor . I don't think the problem is just sweetness it needs some acid something to make that coconut pop? all I can taste is the chocolate. Doesn't have that yummy constancy of a truly great bread pudding.

I'm sorry, I just didn't think it had enough flavor. I think it needed some sugar in the custard before it's poured over the bread.

I found this to be a very bland taste! If it were not for the Velvet sauce there would not be much taste! There was not even a coconut taste and the recipe was followed as it is! The only thing that made it sweet was the sauce. I have found other Coconut bread pudding recipes and they all call for some kinda sugar!!! I was wondering if it was omitted when the recipe was put online???

This was absolutely excellent! I used (sightly stale Challah bread, ommitted the mace, used extra nutmeg, and added unsweetened flaked coconut on the top - everyone loved it. I didn't have time to make the chocolate sauce but we all agreed that it didn't need it. This will definitely be a holiday regular!

This has to be the best bread pudding ever! Paula darlin' you have done it again. Love your recipes. Coconut has so many health benefits...google it. A note on the cream of coconut. I went to so many stores and could not find it. Then I found it in the liquor department for making Pina Coladas. Using French bread that has a soft crust & the cheapest in the bakery. I cut the top brown part off & it makes the best bread pudding. If you like coconut you will love this recipe & so moist. I did not use a Chocolate sauce for this because it just needs some whip cream to top it off. Thanks Paula!

Bread pudding and Coconut Cream pie are two of my favorite desserts. I saw Paula making this on her show during the week and I decided to make it for Sunday dessert. My husband and I both agree that this recipe just didn't suit our taste. My husband suggested topping it with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Made this recipe exactly as written and it does take a fair amount of time from start to finish. The end pudding is not overly sweet. The chocolate sauce definitely brings the whole recipe together and makes it tasty. Without the chocolate sauce I am not sure that I would have given it 4 stars.

Literally, might be the tastiest thing I've ever put in my mouth. High in calories and fat? Absolutely, but I make it as a special treat because it is so darn good! I omit the shredded coconut in the pudding, instead I toast some and sprinkle on the top. I also omit the mace and add an 1/8 t. more of the nutmeg. Instead of a chocolate sauce, my family prefers a drizzle of caramel sauce. Honestly, divine!
