I love bread pudding, but this is the best. I found the 2 key ingredients at the local grocery. I looked in the organic isle for the cream of coconut milk and the mix drink section for Lopez cream of coconut and found both. My pudding is baking now. I took a sneak bite and it is so good. I am not sure if I need the chocolate on the top, but I will see. I believe this is going to be one of my favorite receipes.

I saw the TV episode of Paula and her guest, Iron Chef Michael Symon make this. After tasting it he remarked, "this is my new birthday desert." He is an amazing chef, so I just wrote out my grocery list so I can make this tomorrow. Can't wait!

I could not find the cream of coconut but did not know to try the drink mix aisle, so I substituted another can of coconut milk. I also added a 1/2C of sugar for sweetness because the coconut milk is not sweet like the cream of coconut is. Well, it did not turn out that great, so don't do what I did. The texture was somewhat dry and it could have been a little sweeter. I might try it again with the right ingredients. The only thing that baffled me was...no butter! For a Paula Deen recipe???

As one southern lady to another, Paula-you nailed it with this one! I tend to alter most recipes-but I always try the original ingredients, first, as I did with this one. My husband and I ate this fresh out of the oven, (couldn't wait for it to cool or chill and I liked it hot, but the next day with coffee in the morning, cold, no topping of any kind, was the best, ever. We love it Paula-and I definitely think it is sweet enough just like it is-anyone that loves coconut and bread pudding should try this-it's going in my family cookbook today!

Hi Kery.
I also live in Las Vegas and found the coconut milk and coconut cream at the 99 cents store located at the 215 and Eastern.

WOW, This was great! I could not remember the exact ingredient amounts while at the grocery store so I estimated and it was awesome. I did add more cream of coconut (23oz bottle instead of a 13oz can. I did not bake in a water bath and it still came out great. I used challah bread with raisins which added an little twist. Thanks Paula this will replace by lemon bread pudding recipe.

You can find both ingredients at your local grocery store; try the area where they sell Mexican ingredients or Asian ingredients for both the unsweetened coconut milk, and the cream of coconut. The cream of coconut may also be where they sell "dry mixers" and margarita salt for mixed drinks. I live in a very rural area, and the stores here even carry these items, you just may have to look a little, or ask the store manager. Good luck, hope this helps!:

I would LOVE to make this for my mother's 81st birthday next month but does anyone have any idea where I can buy the two key ingredients? unsweetened coconut milk and cream of coconut?? I live in Ls Vegas so we have lots of specialty food markets. Thank you for any advice you have!

I realized after mixing everything and baking it, that it did NOT call for adding sugar. Although the coconut is somewhat sweet. Its not your grandma's bread pudding. The chocolate sauce is good, but you can tell sugar is definitely MISSING!!!!!!!!
