I am a novice cook, so I don't usually mess around with experts' recipes. I was, however, kind of freaked out by all the previous reviews claiming that the sour cream taste was overwhelming, so I only used 10 oz. and hoped for the best. I made this for an office brunch (cheap ingredients + minimal effort = office gold, and it was devoured in record time! I made it the night before, and it reheated really well in the microwave (approx. 8 minutes. I seasoned to taste, rather than following the recipe's measurements to a T, and I do think that more seasoning is key if you don't want this dish to be bland. I went nuts with the garlic powder, and added some cayenne for a kick. It was gooey, browned nicely on top, and tasted wonderful. And buttery. Did I mention buttery? Thanks Paula!

Everyone thought this was tasty. I pretty much followed the recipe with the exception: sauted the onions but not potatoes. I mixed the frozen potatoes with other ingredients. Threw in a little chopped fresh parsley that I had on hand. No potato chips on hand so I sprinkled cheese on top and then crushed crackers. I used sea salt. We thought it was good as is. Maybe next time I might mix in a little milk for more creamy consistency. Maybe if I hadn't used Lo Fat sour cream it would have been "saucier". I would make this again. It is nice to have a good base recipe to modify as your personal taste desires.

Like most I, tweak this recipe to fit what ever meal I'm planning to serve it with.
My family does not it so sour, so I use less sour cream and replace it with chicken stock. I cut back the butter, and use French's fried onions for topping. I plan to experiment with peppers and other spices for fun.

Don't understand why everyone is making tweaks to this recipe. I made this for a brunch and it was the first thing to go! Everyone loved it and wanted more. I did exactly what the recipe called for and it was amazing!

It was okay, nothing fabulous. I'm not sure I'd go through the trouble of making it again.

I made this (without modifications for Christmas Eve brunch with a fritatta. It was quick and easy to make and EVERYONE loved it. People had seconds (and thirds and all asked for the recipe. Lots of compliments! Thanks for a great dish, Paula!

Everyone seems to want to make adjustments to this recipe!!! Well, I am no exception. Since I am not familiar with the taste of Cream of Celery soup, I chose to go with Cream of Chicken. I also took another reviewer's suggestion to use additional cheese on top before adding the potato chips. I have made this casserole at least 5 times as a side dish for dinner. I will definitely consider using it as the base for a breakfast dish as well. It is very easy and very flavorful. My family and I really enjoy it.

This tastes a lot like a dish my grandmother used to make. I do agree with the other posters that it could use a little something extra. However it worked just great for us because I fed it to my 9 month old son on his first Christmas morning. He is used to pretty bland food, so I cut back the onions and salt. If I were to make this solely for myself, though, I'd add that hot sauce I have read others mention. In fact, I will do that with the leftovers. Thanks Paula, for helping make a memorable first Christmas morning with my new little family.

I noticed many comments about the cassarole tasting strongly of sour cream, so I adjusted for that. I took the amount that the recipe called for and used about 3/4 of that, also just using cheddar cheese because I couldn't find the blend she asked for. I looked at my mixture and was concerned about it being enough to coat the potatoes, then added some heavy cream. I eyeballed it, used about 1/3 cup or so. Turned out delicious! I took it to a small gathering and it was all gone, many people had seconds. I didn't notice a strong sour cream flavor, nothing but yumminess. Will make again, for sure!!

This recipe is delicious, after a few tweaks. I use less sour cream, add a little Tabasco sauce, use onion powder or salt instead of chopped onion (I hate the texture, and top with crushed Cheez-Its or Corn Flakes. It is our favorite side with baked ham. It is also good as a main dish with Jimmy Dean's Maple sausage mixed in.
