I cannot agree that this is bad mac and cheese it is a great base to start with after reading the review I wanted to see if I could put a twist on it and give it a lot more taste and a better texture than some people said. I took eggs and cheese soup whisked it together I added kosher salt and white pepper along with dry mustard whisked it all together. I added the pasta and mixed it with egg mixture. I took the cheddar the sour cream butter and instead of milk I used heavy cream and cooked it all together on the stove whisking till blended mixing it with pasta, than added garlic powder cayenne more kosher salt and white pepper squeezed in a little grey poupon than real bacon bits. Yummy!

Yuk...... As one of my kids said it taste like scrambled eggs mixed in with macaroni..... Well I tried. I followed recipe as directed but have to say I will stick to Ina's Macaroni and Cheese. The only reason I have one star is because they did not let me post with out one. I pull recipes off this sight at lease twice a week and have never been compelled to write, but this did it.

Great, is all I can say! The taste is yummy. I used mild cheddar because that is what I had at home and it still turned out great. The eggs were a good addition and turned out great for me.

I found this recipe and it made me decide to finally buy a slow cooker. The only thing I would suggest is not bothering boiling the pasta beforehand...if you're going to cook it for 3 hours in the cheese sauce, it'll probably be overdone as it is. I put mine in raw and only left it in the crockpot for 2 hours and it's pretty much perfect!
I can see what people mean about the eggs giving it a strange texture, I might possibly leave them out next time to see how that changes things. The sour cream/mustard additions are totally fantastic though - yum!

I have made this a few times already and it is great! The first few times I did it with the eggs and found that it looked like there was actually scrambled eggs in the mac and cheese, still tasted good, but looked funky. Then I started doing without the eggs and wow, so much better! I also did it for about 2-2 1/2 hours in the crock w/o the eggs. So easy and everyone enjoyed it!

Finally a winner! I've tried so many mac and cheese recipes and have yet to find one that is the perfect blend of cheesy and creaminess, UNTIL NOW! Thanks Paula, this recipes was a huge hit. I followed it almost exactly, but added about 3 pieces of chopped bacon for extra flavor. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I think the cooking time was too long, as it got less creamy by 3 hours. The perfect time would have been about 90 minutes. I used all 3 eggs and didn't find they made the texture weird as others have said. Overall, well worth the time!

This mac and cheese is incredible any day of the year, but I've made it for my family twice now for Thanksgiving and Christmas and it was a hit each time. Paula is simply THE BEST.
Although the recipe is great the way it is, for Christmas, I used sharp cheddar to make the cheese and butter mixture, but I used mild cheddar when it came time to add more cheese to the crock pot. I also left out 1 egg (I used medium sized eggs and instead of using dry mustard, I used 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon of hot sauce. I also heated the sour cream, milk and hot sauce together FIRST until it became a creamy kind of sauce to itself, then I added the cheesy/butter mixture, the eggs, the soup/sour cream/milk mixture and salt/pepper and stirred it a bit and then added the macaroni. I only cooked it on low for 2 hours and it came out beautifully. I thank Paula not just for giving us great recipes, but for inspiring me to grow in my confidence as a cook!

I loved this. I didn't use a crock-pot or use eggs and it still came out delicious! I cooked it on the stove top then baked it in the over with grated cheddar cheese on top. It was by far the best mac and cheese Ive ever had! Loved it!!!

Super yummy!! Planning on leaving out the eggs next time--made the dish almost have a curdled texture. But the mac and cheese was DELICIOUS! And I loooove the fact that it's a crock-pot meal---so easy, simple cleanup!
