I just made this, but I didn't do it in the Crock Pot, I just made it in a large pan on the stove. I haven't let it cook on low for a while yet, that part is just starting. But I omitted the eggs and just tasted it, I have to say, I LOVE it. I am a big fan of the frozen Stouffer's mac n' cheese, and so far, this tastes just like it! I have been looking for a copycat of it for years, looks like I just found it. I also put a little heavy cream and a little more milk and sour cream, as to combat the dryness other people have mentioned. I let the butter and cheddar melt for a long time before adding the other ingredients, to make sure it wouldn't get lumpy, and it's smooth as a baby's bottom...Okay, maybe not the best analogy for dinner, but you get my drift. Thanks, Paula! I love you to death!

I like my family recipe way better than this one. It was overdone as others had said after an hour and a half in the slow cooker, and it had a strage aftertaste. Won't be making this again.

My family loved it. I doubled the recipe and only added 3 eggs instead of 6 eggs. I also added X-Sharp at end and put it under the broiler to form a crust. Everyone loved it.

I thought it was just ok. My cheese was clumpy so I think I will use block cheese next time. My macaroni seemed overcooked and a little mushy so when I attempt it again, I will make some changes! The kids liked it, so I suppose that's all that matters!

I hated to do it but I sent my mom a copy of Paula's Mac & Cheese recipe. After telling her how wonderful it was she put it to a taste test with to her old fasion Mac & Cheese. She just e-mailed me and said that it was indeed the best she's ever tasted. When I can add a recipe to my mom's cookbook I know it's got to be good. Thanks Paula Dean. You're a joy!
I did want to say that I used pre-shredded cheddar and I think it's to blame for my cheese melting in clumps. My mom used a aged block cheddar and said it melted without any clumps. Next time I'll go for the block cheese.

This recipe was GREAT. I read the previous reviews and was a little worried, but I served it with Easter Dinner and everyone loved it. I made the following alterations: NO EGG. Added 1/2 of a small block of Velvetta to the beginning cheese sauce... Cooked for 1 hour on low, stirring halfway through, then switched to warm setting while my ham cooked. Stirred every 30 minutes, added cheese on top 30 minutes before serving. Tasted great and reheated perfectly the next day... not dry at all as some leftovers are.
