Ingredients

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Caramelize onions by sauteing in oil until they are brown and slightly sticky, about 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Cut bread into 2-inch rounds, using a biscuit cutter or a glass. Toast 1 side. Season cream cheese with Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, black and red pepper and paprika. Spread cream cheese mixture on toasted side of the bread rounds. Top center with caramelized onions. Frost with mayonnaise and sprinkle lightly with paprika. Bake until toasted and bubbly, about 15 to 20 minutes.

Miss Paula, these were to die for. I thought your mushroom canapes were the best, but these are right up there with them. Many thx, kr

The Creamy Onion Canapes were the most scarfed-down treat at one of my Christmas party last night. Will be making these again and again and again! Thank you Paula Deen for giving us another fabulous dish to share with visiting guests!!!

These were so delicious and were a hit at my Chrsitmas party. They were all gone. They need to be made during the last hour before party starts, but trust me, it is worth it. Paula also has recipes for Mushroom or Tomato cananpes which I will aslo try, but the sauteed onions were so good. I used sweet yellow onions, they were perfect.
