I never have apple sauce in my house, so I've never added it. I used Honeycrisp apples and THAT make this pie HEAVENLY!!!! Honeycrisp apples are a bit more juicy than others, so I typically use a 3 tbls flour to keep the juice thick. Otherwise, it's a bit runny. But coming from someone who has NEVER liked apple pies, this is a HUGE compliment to this recipe! Enjoy!!!!

This was an awesome combination of a lattice and a streusel topping. I used 8 oz of cinnamon applesauce (it was all I had instead of 16oz of regular, added a little more apple, cut the lemon juice in half, and doubled the topping, using 1 tbs. of sugar, and 1 tbs brown sugar. Yum!

This was my first time baking an apple pie. The recipe was so easy and the end result was perfect. I baked this for my husband's birthday ad he loved it. I followed the other recommendations and only used 8oz of the apple sauce and doubled the crunch top topping. Very good and I don't even like apple pie. :

My family LOVES this apple pie, they ask for it frequently! So easy my 3 year-old even helps prepare. I also halfed the apple sauce, l even added a pear last time with the apples.

Best Apple pie ever, in addition to adusting the apple sauce to half of what was required due to reading other reviews and suggestions, and increased the apples to about 4 1/2 cups. Thanks much, Paula!

I made this recipe for this past Thanksgiving for the first time and it was excellent. I doubled the recipe to make two pies. Everyone loved them!! It was easy. I took the advice of others and used 1 cup of apple sauce and I doubled the crumble for the top of the pie. My sister-in-law could not stop raving about my pie. I am making it today for Christmas Eve dinner tomorrow night. Thanks, Paula!

I did what other reviewers suggested: used 8oz applesauce and doubled the crunch topping. You made me shine, Miss Paula -- THANK YOU for the recipe and for sharing! I used 6 1/2 (my daughter's left over lunch slices small Granny Smith apples and the store bought crust, did the lattice work top, and it smelled fabulous and looked oh-so nice. Another keeper!

Very tasty! After the first pie, I made a few changes. I omitted the applesauce,(used 6 or 7 med. apples and for the topping, I used brown sugar instead of white and added 1 tsp. of ground cinnamon.
Servedit at Thanksgiving and it was a hit!
