I brought this to our friends house for Thanksgiving and it was fantastic. It looks beautiful and tastes even better. I didn't use the apple sauce (it sounded gross but I really liked Paula's crust recipe. It's different than the one my mom has used for decades and a whole lot easier. Also, for an easier way to do a lattice crust, use the bottom side of a cookie sheet, dust it a little with flour, and weave. When you're done, you can just "slide" it on to your pie!

I LOVE Paula and her buttery ways, but this pie was only mediocre. I thought the apple sauce was a cool little secret, and I honestly felt like it not only made the filling too sweet, but it was really reminiscent of apple sauce taste. The lattice top with the crumble is exquisite though! :o

I was a little nervous making the pie crust but to my amazement it came out fanatastic. My family told me to make this for Thanksgiving which I definelty will. The crust was tender and flaky due to the combination of shortening and butter. Make sure the water is icy cold. Thanks Paula...leave it to the southerners for a great pie crust. The apple sauce with the combination with the apples made it melt in your mouth. MMM good. The crumb topping was an extra fine touch to any already delicous pie. The filling was not overly sweet. I used unsweetend chunky applesauce. In the future, I may add homemade apple sauce to this recipe.
By the way, when my family said it was the best apple pie they have tasted, it sent chills down my arms. Thanks again Paula. Happy Thanksgiving.

I'm not a pie fan but this one is extraordinary! I did cut the apple sauce in half and added more cinnamon, doubled the topping and added oats. Moist, delicious and totally addictive!

This is a wonderful receipe, I didn't feel like making any crust so I brought the ready made frozen crust and it still came out great leaving people wanting MORE!!

I love this recipe. It's very simple and delicious. Be sure to place baking pan underneath, in case filling bubbles over!

I have made this pie many times and have had many ppl ask me for the recipe. It is easy to make even for a rookie cooker and baker like myself. You gotta try it!
