another hit for me at the famliy gathering. what a great pie, my husband said this was the best he has had. My daughter in law texted my son and said hey does your mom have any of the apple pie left can you get me some. (she couldnt stay for dinner she had to work so I she took a small piece with her
I can say this though, I am not sure what this would have done with the whole 16 oz of applesauce like other people i used 8 oz

I made this pie for thanksgiving this year, since last years pie was a flop. I used red rome apples, about 3 cups worth (should have used an extra 1/2 cup to 1 cup more since I made a deep dish. I used reg. store bought roll out dough for my crust, instead of making my pie dough. I thought this recipe was good, however even with the 3 cups of apples I used, the recipe calls *i think* for to much apple sauce. I would cut back a little on the applesauce. If I used more apples then I think the measurement for the applesauce would work just fine. I loved the pie, but my husband didn't care to much for it, because of the applesauce. whether is a real issue or not (since it's not his mom's apple pie recipe is to really be determined. My kids liked it, I liked it...so the pie is still good.

First apple pie I made and it was a huge success! I followed the suggestions by adding a little extra cinnamon to the apples and crunch topping and 1/2 the applesauce. Not sure how many cups of apples but I cut up 6 (3 granny and 3 golden. Great recipe...I was the star of the night. :

GO-TO Recipe. When you're in the mood for Apple pie, make this one. I am a novice baker and I had great success with this one. As per other reviewers, I reduced the unsweeteend applesauce by 1/2, sprinkled extra cinnamon, and doubled the topping. This was fabulous. Next time, I'll work harder on my presentation -- never done a lattice-top before.

This was my first time making apple pie and it was delicious. I regret not reducing the applesauce though. It made my filling mushy but the flavor still made the pie overall a success. Will also try doubling the crunch top also next time.

Before I attempted this I read as many reviews as possible . I used 8oz's applesauce
And doubled the crunch top recipe. I can't begin to tell you the rants and raves I received from this! This will stay in my family and become a holiday tradition now! Thank you Paula!

This was a hit yesterday. I doubled the topping and cut the apple sauce (cinnamon flavored to one cup. I'd even cut it to 1/2 cup next time as it was a little saucy. Keep in mind that when you double the topping it covers the lattice design a little.

WOW that's good!!! This was my first attempt at apple pie, ever and it turned out wonderful! I did reduce the amount of apple sauce (I used cinnamon apple sauce and I doubled the crumb topping, other then that...I followed the recipe to a 'T'. This is a keeper!
