I baked my first apple pie with this recipe. I have to say it was the best pie crust I think I have ever had. Flaky and buttery beyond belief! The apple filling was a little on the tart side. I used unsweetened apple sauce and a 50/50 mix of granny smith apples and braburn. I wonder if a different choice of apple or applesauce would have been better? Or just more sugar?

Very delicious pie! My family loved it. I took the advice of others and used just 1 cup of unsweetened apple sauce. I also doubled the crumb topping. This has now become my "go to" apple pie recipe.

I've been making apple crumb pies for over 50 years but only with a bottom crust. It is my very favorite pie but Paula's lattice top with crumb topping is the best . Thanks to you Paula.

Great pie! As the other reviews suggested, I used half as much applesauce and doubled the crumb topping. I added 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon to the crumb topping as well! Easy to make and very good. I used a mixture of granny smith and Cortland apples. 3/4 cup of sugar is fine if the apples are tart.

Every recipe I make from Paula Deen is always a crowd pleaser. Tonight I made this pie for dessert and not a crumb was left. Simply delicious!

Excellent apple pie. I use less than half of the apple sauce (maybe 6 oz and twice the crumble topping. I've made this several times and everyone loves it!

Delicious! I will recommend less apple sauce (about 8oz and 2 tablespoons of flour for the filling. I made the crust with all purpose white and whole wheat flour, ratio 3:1 surprisingly good. Next time, I will double the crunch topping.
