Made this with Paula's pie crust (with buttor and shortening and it was very good (and looks gorgeous. The applesauce helps thicken things up and adds a nice dimension. I picked a mix of apples from my farmers market and they did not cook evenly. The granny smith were still a bit crunchy - unexpected, and I'm not sure if I like it or not. I'll have to eat more to decide!

My best friend from Hungary and I made this recipe last night and agree...this is the best apple pie we've ever had. Thanks Paula! Ps...we bought really good gourmet apple sauce so we didnt add any extra spice or cinnamon.

I put a little too many apples into the filling so there was a bit of a mound. I thought it would be fine, but 4 spots in the lattice were bubbling about 30minutes into the baking. I think I should just use a bit less apple. That small difficulty aside, the pie was DELICIOUS.

I made this for Easter and Christmas and everyone always talks about how amazing it is. I use the cinnamon applesauce which really rounds out the flavors nicely. I'm always surprised at how simple it is and how much everyone loves it.

Out of all the apple pie recipes available, I would chose every last one of them over this. Very disappointing, don't understand the use of apple sauce in it. It completely took away from the whole pie. Didn't feel like I was eating apple pie, more like I was sticking a spoon in a jar of apple sauce. And the crunch top was definitely not crunchy.

Made this for the first time for Thanksgiving... It was huge hit!!! People thought that it was catered. I followed the recipe to a tee, except for the topping. I didn't add a top crust, and I added walnuts to the crunch topping. I will be sure to make this one of my favorites!!!

I made this pie for Thanksgiving and it got rave reviews! I used a lot more apples, about half the applesauce and doubled the crunch topping. Thanks for a great recipe, Paula!
