I made my very first apple pie last fall using this recipe, and to say it was a hit would be an understatement. Everyone loved the crust and the filling, and since that first pie I have made 2 more. I cannot wait to make my first one of the season next weekend. Best apple pie I've ever had, hands down. Paula Deen is no joke, make this NOW!

This pie is phenomenal, the crust is absolutely perfect, I could eat in by itself! Thanks, I love it.

I actually combined this recipe and the Alton Brown's Super Apple Pie recipe.
The apples will soften properly and have no extra juices if you roll them in 1/4 cup sugar and let them drain for an hour in a colander.
I also used some tapioca flour from the Alton Brown recipe. It gels the apples a little and helped them keep their shape. I used Garam Masala and Nutmeg to season. It was an amazing substitute! I can't stand cinnamon and this had tons of flavour!!!
For those with burned pies: This is the cold hard truth, but you either have a VERY bad oven that simply doesn't cook food evenly or you changed the recipe of the crust. If you used less shortening, too much flour or not enough butter, this is also why your pie burned. The main reason behind so much fat is to allow the pie to cook at a high temperature and NOT burn. Pies aren't healthy. Ever. Quit trying to make them that way and waste an entire day on baking something that will fail miserably.

Absolutely wonderful, and so very fun to make! I have made this Apple Pie in every season, because the family simply keeps coming back for more. Also, the recipe gives room for creativity, just tweak until it's exactly how you want it. Thank you Paula for another great recipe.

Flippin' delicious! I peeled and finely chopped Granny Smith apples which seemed to melt in your mouth as the pie was eaten

The pie was very good.It was also easy to make. I added a little more sugar and cinnamon. I`m just about ready to make another one.

Super easy; this is my go-to for apple pie! The first time I made this a few years back, I used an apple-pear cross. Yeah, too watery--shouldn't have even tried. =

A+ work, Paula!!! This pie was easy and fun to make, beautiful, and delicious! My boyfriend and I made it for his family on Christmas and I was so worried it wouldn't taste good because it was so stinkin' beautiful! It was gorgeous! But it tasted amazing! It held its shape and turned out perfectly!
We read a few reviews and decided to ease up on the apple sauce by just a bit so that the pie wouldn't over flow while cooking. My only regret is that we didn't add more Crunch Topping!
