very good. i added too much apples, an thus the applesauce ran over the top, making a big mess in the oven. i embellished on the topping. added chopped nuts to it. it was good. i would reduce the applesauce next time. i used an extra 1/2 c of apples.

This apple pie recipe is really wonderful. As always, I read the reviews before making my own brilliant attempt. After a few slight (and I mean slight modifications, the result was, well, brilliant!
I used about 4 1/2 cups Granny Smith apples. They hold up well to baking and provide a nice tart bite against the sugary background.
I used unsweetened apple sauce, and decreased it to about 1 cup.
I doubled the crunch topping amount, added a dash of cinnamon to it, and it covered the pie beautifully.
I baked as instructed, although I pulled it out at about 40 minutes as I knew I would allow plenty of resting time.
The finished product, when cooled, was firm and held its shape well. The level of sweetness was perfect and the topping was superb.
Paula has brought us another winner recipe. FYI, this is the same pie they sell at Walmart under Paula's name. It's easy to prepare, has none of the stabilizers, and you can marvel at your creation when you're finished!

I have never put apple sauce in my pie, but what a great addition this was. Make sure you use quality applesauce. I used Organic from Safeway grocery store. I tasted it before using and it was delicious. Also, it is very important to use quality apples. I used Organic Gravensein Apples from a local organic pie shop. They were perfect because they were a little tart and a little sweet. I also used Paula's Perfect pie crust recipe, it really is "PERFECT." It was buttery and flaky and awesome. I will make this pie recipe and crust recipe for the rest of my life!!!!!!!

I made this tonight and it was absolutely delcious. The only mistake I made was letting my patiience get the best of my and cutting it too soon. The crust and filling is delicious (I did use cinnamon apple sauce & less than the recipe called for about 10-12 oz. This is better than pies you can buy in the store and is easy to make. It's also incredibly pretty. definitely a recipe I would pass on.

I made this pie for Christmas dinner and it was a huge hit. My boyfriend is a VERY picky eater said it was the best apple pie he's ever had and he keeps bugging me to make it again. Awesome recipe - anyone who doesn't agree probably messed up somewhere along the way.

Paula I am from the south and love, love, love you.....I just got done making your apple pie. The filling I sampled and it taste pretty good, although I did not add the apple sauce, but next time I will. I am making this pie for my husband?s birthday..I hope he loves it. The only problem I see with it is the pie crust I bought burnt a bit in the oven..so that may be my oven just got too hot too fast...I did add some lemon zest to it...the flavor is nice.. I also just did the crumble. Thank You for a great experience.

This was the first pie I've baked, and it came out amazing. I made my own applesauce, and i'm sure that made a difference. My family said it looked like the ones sold at the bakery. YeI!!! Thank you Paula!

I have made this pie a few times and everyone agrees it is the BEST apple pie they have ever tasted.
I use Pilsbury premade pie crusts when I make it; they have a great flavor and it's much easier.

I have never been a big fan of Apple Pie but my daughter-in-law made this pie and I fell in love with it. It is so gooood!!! When I told my daughter-in-law it was the BEST Apple Pie I had ever eaten, she thought I was just saying that to make her feel good, but it is really that good. I usually do all the cooking in our family and never let anyone else bring anything...until now.. I request her to make this pie for our family get-togethers now every year.
