I am a vegetarian and decided to try and cook the Thanksgiving turkey after watching Paula's show. I bought a deep fryer and my boyfriend did the dirty work of cleaning the turkey and setting up the fryer. Our only problem was that we had the propane tank on its side and it froze up and the flame went out for 10 minutes. The temperature dropped and it took another 10 minutes to get it back to 350. We added an extra 5 minutes to the cooking time and the turkey seemed to come out perfectly. Everyone raved about how moist and flavorful it was. I didn't actually try it, but everyone seems to want to fry the turkey again next year, so it must have been good.. Thanks for the idea Paula!

After looking at the episode I saw a few things that were wrong. She seasoned the turkey, no flavor injection or anything, just a rub. If you don't at least seasoned the turkey well in advance when you place the turkey in the frying receptacle all of the seasoning is going to wash away.

You will end up with a moist and crispy turkey, but no flavor at all. Further, the price of the peanut oil needed to fry the turkey is high, furthermore it increases the caloric value of the meat twofold.

I now that Thanksgiving is not the day to watching for calories, but it would be nice that the Food Network show ways to cook a turkey on the cheap, but with flavor and without expensive gimmicks, just ask me how.

You can mess up a turkey either fried or roasted if you don't season well and that what is lacking in all the turkeys I've seen from Emeril all the way down to the newbies at the Food Network. Just my two cents worth!!!

Paula EVERY recipe of yours that I have ever made has been excellent. I am not hesitant at all to try one for the first time on company. I quickly browsed through your reviews for your fried turkey and saw nothing but 4's and 5's. I will be making your fried turkey recipe for Thanksgiving - maybe even for Christmas too. Thanks for all you do and for being so passionate about your love of cooking and sharing it with all of us.
