Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 (6-ounce) cans tuna fish
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons diced green onions
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • Lemon juice, optional

Directions

Heat 1-inch of oil in a large skillet over medium heat. While oil is heating, combine tuna, beaten egg, green onions, mayonnaise, 1/4 cup bread crumbs, and lemon juice, to taste, if desired. Form into patties and dust with additional bread crumbs. When oil is hot, fry patties until golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels before serving.

    Cheap & Yummy! + I made a lowfat sauce.

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
So, this first time ive made one of paula's recipes because they usually require one or more sticks of butter! I am... health conscious person so I thought this would be a great recipe to make. I made some modifications to the recipe to make it lower in fat and a little more tastier. I just used what ever spices I had in the cupboard. Also, made a dipping sauce to go with these yummy treats. I've already made these twice this week. Fast, filling, low-fat and easy clean up! Tuna Cakes: 2 Egg White, Beaten 1/2 Cup Italian Bread Crumbs 1/4 Cup Low Fat Mayo (only about 4 grams of fat) 2 Cans of Drained Tuna 1/4 Teaspoon of Red Chilli Peppers 1/4 Teaspoon of Garlic Powder 1/4 Teaspoon of Paprika 2 Teaspoons of White Onion 1 Teaspoon Lemon Juice Fat Free Crisco Olive Oil Spray Sauce: 2 Teaspoons Low Fat Mayo 4 Teaspoons Ketchup Read more

    Even the Kids Love 'Em!

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
The only additions I made were roasted red bell pepper, about 1/4 cup, 1 chopped, seeded, diced jalapeno, 1 finely diced... stick of celery and about 1/4 cup sugar. Oh, and I added salt, pepper and garlic powder. My only complaint is that they were hard to handle, so I, too, added more bread crumbs, but I really don't think of it as a complaint. Great recipe, Paula Deen! Read more

    Good, but Not Great

Rated: 3 stars out of 5
After reading other reviews, I, too, added 1 & 1/2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning. The resulting flavor was fine, but it still... seemed to lack something. I'm not sure what. I also had to add more bread crumbs when folding in the ingredients; otherwise, the cakes would have been too soupy to stay together. To accompany the cakes, instead of remoulade or tartar sauce, I made Paula's pineapple salsa, which turned out to be a nice addition.Read more

    Great Party treats

Rated: 5 stars out of 5
I made these for my work and they were a huge hit. I didn't tell anyone it was made with tuna rather than crab till they were... all gone which wasn't long. I also made mine minitures so I could make a lot more, make it easier to grad, pop in your mouth, and work in seconds. I added one small can of crab to my double recipe just to change it up a little bit. They were great! I can't wait to make them again.Read more

    Yum!

Rated: 4 stars out of 5
I used half the mayo that the recipe called for and the cakes were still pretty good. all the grease made my stomach angry at... me, but so it goes. I served them with a side salad and rice pilaf and my family was happy with the meal.Read more

    Terrific!

Adding the old bay as other reviewers mentioned did it the trick for these. A great, cheap, lunch or dinner for anyone to... enjoy!Read more
