Silpat is a silicone baking mat! I couldn't figure out how to fold these, but they taste way better than store bought!

I almost used up the whole patch before I finally got on the net and saw a video on how to fold those damn cookies. Fold in half than put it on top of the mug and fold again. Put the fortune cookie in a muffin pan to help keep it shape. Lots of work but taste so much better.

for 11 yrs. not easy at alll! we had a hard time with the directions and couldn't figure out what a silpat was! it kinda ended up tasting like regular cookies and much harder to make and too soft. smelled like rice. wouldn't bake well and hard to fold in 10 sec. sticky but ok.

I am going to attempt to make these but don't have a silpat. Does anyone know if I can use something like parchment and a cookie sheet instead??

    Any suggestions would be great!!

Thank you Paula for a recipe that was easy to put together and to bake. I had to adjust my baking time to 5 to 6 minutes..I think that my oven runs hot. I used parchment paper sprayed with Pam on top of the silpat and it made it a snap to remove the cookies and shape. Now I am ready for my Christmas dinner!

To respond to the person who burned her thumbs, place a small bowl of ice water at your work space. Dip your fingers in it before working with the hot cookie and as needed during the process. This really works and makes the shaping of the cookies much more fun.

I agree with the reviewer below, they must not have baked them long enough. Having read the reviews previously, i baked mine 30-1 min longer than suggested and they came out perfection! I needed something quick, easy and unique to bring to a party and this deffinantly fit the bill! These cookies are fantastic. they taste just like real fortune cookies! I even put them in little "to-go" boxes! my friends and family had nothing but good things to say! i made two batches and have none left over! my only problem with this is you have to fold them immidiatly when they come out of the oven, and your touching 400 degree cookies.. it burns! so my thumbs are pretty sore, but the taste and how cute they are more than make up for it!
