    Very good--close to my own, though I often just use bacon. But the addition of a bit of a certain cheese -not parmesan, sorry- would take this over the top. The secret will be pried from my cold, dead hands! Mwahahaha!

    I bought the Rao's cookbook in 1998 and have been making Frank's marinara since then. I only use San Marzano tomatoes which are sweet. In the summer, I purchase these tomatoes from our local farm market. I roast them 225* for 1 1/2 hr and continue with the recipe (you might have to add a bit of water for some liquid. I just used Frank's recipe the other night while making Ina's eggplant gratin. I heartily recommend this recipe for true Italian sauce (gravy!!!
