I used this recipe, and the one person who swears they don't like onions now begs me to make this all the time. Paula Deen ROCKS!!!!

I've never made french onion soup before and chose Paula's recipe for my first attempt. I LOVE F.O.S, but i have a family of onion haters so knew this was going to be a tough sell..
I deviated a little bit from the recipe. Substituted low sodium beef broth for the beef stock. Back off on onions by about 25% to soften the onion overload for the family, and used provolone cheese because it's a household favorite. It was wonderful. Everyone enjoyed it and finished every last drop. Thanks Paula! : I'll be making this recipe again soon.. Note: Carmalizing EVERYonion is important if you have onion haters in the house. Mine took about 45 minutes before all onions were translucent and completely soft. The rest was a piece of cake. :

I tried this one, I perfer using red wine instead of white, and not as much thyme. other than that, very good.

This soup was great and super easy to make. I made a few changes, like so many others. I added Worcestershire to the onions while they were caramelizing. This recipe is definitely not a 45 minuet recipe. It takes longer than that just to caramelize the onions. I only used a pinch of thyme and 1/2 a bay leaf. and red wine instead of white wine. My husband loved it and he wasn't a French Onion Soup person. This will be a keeper.

The method for cooking the onions is excellent and quick considering most French Onion soup recipes. I was surprised that it didn't list Worcestershire sauce, though, since virtually all recipes for this call for it. I went ahead and added about 1/2 cups' worth into the beef stock prior to adding it to the onions and it came out excellent! Highly recommend adding that!
