I used 4 onions as well and it made a brothier soup. I also had fresh baguette and melted raclette (traditional fondue french alps cheese as I don't have a broiler. It was absolutely delicious!

Good, simple recipe. Made a small batch using 4 onions and 4 cups of vegetable stock. Great flavor with some smoked Gruyere.

great recipe,8 onions are definatly way to much, use 4. take the time to cook them low and slow! instead of white wine i used 1/4cup of sherry, which added much more depth to the broth.i also found that i needed more kosher salt to flavor to our taste.best recipe i've tried so far

For our family of 5 children at home plus friends, the appeal was broad and appealed to youthful palates as well as adult. Preparation was simple and ingredient list was accessable. We loved it and it made for a memorable evening dinner.

Loved this recipe! I made it exactly as it reads with exception of the french bread. I used sour dough bread in it's place. Great job Paul Dean!

This is a great recipe! After reading previous reviews, I agree that 8 onions is A LOT so I used less. Glad I did. I also doubled up on the thyme to give it a more herby taste. This recipe could tend to be a bit bland for some tastes, including my own, so I added a package of dry au jus gravy mix. That really kicked up the flavor quotient! Also, substituted croutons for bread. This was a huge hit and so, so simple.

It was Okay but not as good as Tyler's Ultimate. His with red wine really gives it a punch.

In order to understand the recipe you have to have watched the show. Paula made short ribs and added them to the french onion soup. I think this is what gave her soup the flavor it needs.
