Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 McIntosh apples, peeled, cored, and sliced, or 1 can apple pie filling
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 (8-piece) container refrigerated flaky biscuit dough
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Powdered sugar

Directions

Filling: Add the butter to a large saute pan and melt. Add the apples, sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until the apples are soft, about 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool.

When the filling is cool, roll the biscuits out on a lightly floured surface so that each biscuit forms a 7 to 8-inch circle. Place 2 to 3 tablespoons of the filling on each biscuit circle. Brush the edges of the circle with water. Fold the circle over the filling to make a half-moon shape. Seal by pressing the edges with the tines of a fork.

Preheat deep-fryer with oil to 350 degrees F.

Carefully add the pies to the oil, 1 at a time, and fry until golden brown, turning the pies as necessary for even browning, about 5 to 8 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with powdered sugar immediately.

    So EASY and YUMMY!!

What a quick way to have hot apple pies after dinner! used to make something like this with pie crust, but this is so much... easier. Instead of dusting with powedered sugar, sometimes I'll make a glaze by mixing a little milk into powdered sugar. I always keep refrigerated jumbo biscuits and canned apple filling on hand. Baking at 375* for 17 minutes also works (if you're trying to cut back on fat) but the frying really adds to the flavor. Read more

Amazing Flavor (ok, not healthy) but still AMAZING FLAVOR!

I did this recipe and it was just incredible easy. I did a few changes though to feel less guilty. I used 1 tablespoon of... butter instead of two, and I did not deep fried them, I baked them at 350 and just brushed them with a little bit of canola oil. And they were crunchy in the outside, moist and soft on the inside.Read more

OMG! These are wonderful yummy fried pies and so easy to make! I am from Tennessee and I always visit the "Apple Barn" in... Pigeon Forge and they have some really awesome pies but I have to admit this recipe tops them. I added a little dab of butter on top of the apple mixture before folding the dough over. I don't have a deep fryer & used a deep fry pan. They brown fast so keep a close eye on them. Leave it to Paula...........she rocks! Read more

I agree with you Carol. Paula's deserts are the best. Don't like the fat and sweet, stay away. We all have choices.!!!
