I used panko (Japanese bread crumbs and it came out just fine. In fact, it was my second time making and everybody agreed that they liked them much better. I really just don't like asparagus eater, but what I tried wasn't horrible, but just not for me. It has nothing to do with the recipe, it's just me. I don't down rate a recipe because of personal taste like I have noticed others do. I just don't get that. I also don't understand why people rate a recipe a #1 just to ask a question. Go figure.

Upon another reviewers comment about the batter, I used a beer batter and made the creole mustard sauce. Overall it was pretty good. Although, I preferred the sauce before we added the creole mustard, it gave it a weird tang

I have made this recipe several times, using fresh green beans and fresh okra, also. Equally yummy with all three veggies. The creole mustard sauce is great, and very useful...we have used the leftovers as "ketchup" for french fries!

I had never had asparagus and saw this recipe on a Paula Deen show and decided to give it a try....I am so glad I did. This wonderful....my mom hated asparagus as a kid and tried this with me...we were both in love...

Are any of her fried recipe's bad?!? I have never made asparagus and only eat it at restaurants steamed. Paula had it looking so good that I had to try it. What a great recipe. My father was visiting and he made a face when he saw I was making aspargus, but he couldn't stop eatting them! Thankfully I had doubled the recipe...half of them were gone before I got them to the dinner table! Great side dish with my duck! Thanks, Paula!

We had this at a New Year's Eve party this year. It was a total hit! Even the folks who didn't like asparagus were loving it! I will add a little salt to the batter the next time. The creole mustard sauce was fantastic!
