I knew the batter looked two think before I even added it to the oil. I was right and the cake wouldn't come together and instead fell into little bits. I ate them anyway. It was kind of like eating popcorn funnel cake. The flavor was good, but the recipe didn't work.

The batter turned into small bits and pieces in the oil and because the consistency was uneven, while some of it cooked other pieces got burned. The unburned pieces tasted like funnel cake/pancakes but didnt look anything like what I'm used to. I always knew funnel cake to be one large piece with almost web like connections. Very dissapointing sorry Paula, Our family still loves you dearly and will continue to try your recipes.

I was really disappointed with this recipie. My children and I were not able to get to our state fair this year and we were really craving some good 'ol fair food. I came across this recipie and it sounded easy enough, but after making it twice in a row, the cakes just would not puff up, and all you tasted was oil. I think having what the temp of the oil should be and how much would have been helpful.

I looked at the reviews before I made this and some were good and some were bad. It did not work out for me. It fell into little pieces and did not puff up. I didn't even think the little pieces had good flavor. It failed. I guess I will keep looking for a good funnel cake recipe.

I agree with another reviewer that the oil temp/amount might have been helpful here. I tried making these for my family and as soon as the batter would hit the oil, it separated into hundreds of tiny little pieces. I tried it, my mom tried it, and my sister-in-law tried it--but we all had the same results. The kids still had fun eating all the tiny little pieces, but we were all a little disappointed in the end product. After reading other reviews, I'm relieved to see others had the same problem and I wasn't alone it what happened.

My family and I were surfing for a donut recipe, when we came across this one for funnel cakes. Oh happy day! In the words of my gratful family. "These are killer Dad". Not to mention you can make them at a moments notice, with very basic ingredients. Thanks Paula!

It tasted so good, my husband and daughter loved it! I just added 1/2 tsp of more sugar to the recipe, and done! It was so fluffy in the inside and crunchy on the outside, excellent! It was so easy and quick too! A+++++++++++

Thses are just like at the fair. Since my kids and I like them soft and my husband crispy it was nice to make them the way we like them. The batter stays well in a ziplock bag in the fridge for the next time.
