My sister made this and it is very, very good. My only complaint is that it is kinda "ugly" looking. So, to serve I would save some tomatoes for the top and maybe slices of hard boiled egg and garnish with some parsley or chives or the onion tops. Maybe add some frozen peas to the salad for some color in the salad. It's "ugly" but its very good. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I just had this salad at Paula Deen's restaurant in Savannah. I had to ask our waitress the name of it so I could look it up as soon as we got home. YUM!!! Out to the grocery store now to make-up a batch: item not reviewed by moderator and published
this was very good and very easy! I used Ritz and saltines because I didn't have enough saltines, I like it better with the Ritz! Yummy!!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe is so unbelievably good and easy. I love it! Thanks, Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was looking for something fun and easy to make with my sons for a snack. This was way too easy, but it was delicious! The boys loved smashing the crackers. I didn't add a thing or delete anything. Just followed Paula's recipe as is. Yummy! There wasn't any leftovers! I made fresh lemonade to drink and the combo was great! Thanks, Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
simply delicious.. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Oh my gosh, this is SO good! I even used a can of drained, Hunts diced tomatoes making the prep even faster and let me tell you, it's down right delicious! However the entire time I was eating it all I could think about was how much better it would be with (real bacon bits.....so, guess what I'm trying next time I make it! ;- LOL item not reviewed by moderator and published
2 friends at work told me about this delish recipe. For over a YEAR I ignored their urgings to try thus pure awesomeness. THEY make it MONTHLY to share at their office lunch (I'm nit in their dept. So never got to taste this at those lunches. FINALLY, one of the ladies physically dragged me to their office frig and SHOVED a spoonful at me. OMG my 11 year old & I have made this 3 times in 2 weeks now! In fact we add all ingredients together EXCEPT the crackers and let sit in frig overnight THEN the next day snap a sleeve of crackers into in and a big dollop more of mayo. You'll never make potato salad again with all it's prepping time. Even my neighbors and their 5 year daughter give this recipe "that's YUM" mommy!! Don't be like me.... Don't wait a year to try this. We all add an extra egg to ours. Add or takeaway more or less any of the ingredients you love after tasting it. "Dukes" brand mayo or Helman's really taste super with these ingredients!!! Happy eatin' Y'ALL  item not reviewed by moderator and published
I agree with the below post about when first made..not so good but after sitting in the fridge for a couple of hours and then just adding a few fresh crispy crackers it was really a good side dish for our brisket!!! oh and i did add two eggs instead of one and a dash of celery salt.... item not reviewed by moderator and published
Most excellent! I substituted finely chopped Vidalia onions and quartered plumb tomatoes. I also increased the number of boiled eggs, tomatoes and mayonnaise in the recipe. Was still delicious two days later. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Paula: this is a great substitute recipe for potato based salad, however, I first saw this about 20 years ago on the Justin Wilson cooking show. I believe that his recipe called for some of the normal potato salad ingredients such as finely chopped celery and perhaps diced pickles, olives, etc. I still like the texture of regular potatoe salad, but as Justin would say, " Ay-Eee! Talk about good!" item not reviewed by moderator and published
Had some Romas on their last day and remembered this recipe. My only problem is not eating the whole thing by myself! I'd like to add baby shrimp next time and see how that turns out. item not reviewed by moderator and published
When I first made this salad this afternoon, I was very disappointed; however, after letting it sit in the refrigerator for several hours, it definitely improved in taste. My husband and I ate it with grilled baby back ribs for supper, and it was very tasty. He seemed to like it a little more than I did, so I'll probably make it again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Loved this recipe of her best part it's that you have most of all the staples right at home always ready! I used the 1 1/2 cup light mayo 2 tomatoes and 2 hard boiled eggs left out the onions. Keep in mind yes if you fridge the leftovers you will have soggy crackers BUT it's solved by adding a few fresh in there when you served and you won't noticed the soggy ones at all! I think a great add in is any kind of meat as long as it isn't greasy and to add some veggies for kids add in peas a great plus hidden right in! Go ahead give it a try you won't be sorry. Might sound strange in the beginning but wrap your taste buds around it and you'll never go back! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this salad and added 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese and a 4.25 oz. can of white lump meat crab and red pepper to taste. My family just loved it. I also used reduced fat mayo and cut back on this a little. Fantastic. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This salad was a hit with my family. My teenage grandson, who is a very picky eater got seconds and thirds. I stopped making it because I'm a diabetic and crackers are so high in carbs, not to mention the mayo, which is full of calories. I had forgotten what else went into it except for the crackers, tomato & mayo. I cheat on my diet now and then, and this salad is DEFINITELY WORTH CHEATING FOR! This is definitely a keeper. It is very easy to prepare, and soooo gooood! Thanks Paula, you are the best! Also thanks foodnetwork for providing us with the recipes. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have been making this salad since the first time I saw the recipe on Paula's show...I believe 2004. It's always the first salad bowl emptied on the table. I am having a baby shower for my granddaughter next month and that is the one thing she requested at the luncheon. Chopped red or yellow peppers and shrimp is a nice addition but the original is wonderful just as it is. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have made this salad many times and it is always a hit! No one can guess that the main ingredient is crackers! I do Cut back on the mayo, I only use 1 cup. Its also delish "day two"! item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was good except for the fact that all the mayo made it very rich! I think next time i will only use a cup of mayo. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is one of the best salads for summer! Great flavor. I prefer a bit less mayo and onion and left out the egg. Bacon bits sprinkled on top add a nice flavor as well. Love the crunchy, salty taste. Great with fish or chicken. One of our most used salads in the hot Georgia summer! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I wasn't too sure about this recipe until I tried it. Now I am a BELIEVER. This is superb! I included a stalk of finely chopped celery since I had it available. Just excellent!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I tired this recipe and just love the taste. I share it with my Aunt and my friends and all of them love it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I made this for my book club. We read Paula's book, and I made recipes from it. Her book adds shrimp to the recipe. very good addition, couldn't imagine the salad without em' The salad was a hit with the club. Good salad. Just a bit too much Mayo. I would reduce the mayo by a 3rd if I made this again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I thought what is she doing when I watched Paula Dean make this. I called my mother in law to see if she had ever heard of it. Well we make it and loved it. Its a great vegan salad and so light and filling. A must try for everyone. item not reviewed by moderator and published

This is a good quick substitute to potato salad. I adjusted the ingredients slightly and added less mayo, used two tomatoes, two eggs, a little mustard, and a dash of dill. item not reviewed by moderator and published

We all loved this, good for young and old! We told our friends and now we are all making it! Paula you are our kind of cook. item not reviewed by moderator and published
It was delicious. Just make sure to add the mayonnaise right before you're planning to eat it, it doesn't taste that good if it's already mixed for over 30-45 minutes. To make the recipe a little less fattening, use Hellman's Light Mayonnaise instead. item not reviewed by moderator and published
this was so good, it was better than i thought it would be. i love anything with mayo in it so this fits right into my food group. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is great, easy and everyone loves it. Perfect for church or neighborhood picnics. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Who would think crackers and mayonaise could taste so good? I had it at her restaurant in Savannah and tried making it at home afterwards it was just as good as Paula's!!! Thanks for the down home cookin' girl! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was very easy to make, and my family being from the south just loved it item not reviewed by moderator and published
I found this recipe in one of Paula's cookbooks that I recently bought. This salad was incredible! We have made this 4 times in the past week and still aren't tired of it. I did find that if you mix 1/2 mayo with 1/2 miracle whip, you get a lot more flavor. Thanks Paula for a great recipe to use this summer with all of those garden tomatoes! item not reviewed by moderator and published
THIS IS SO EASY AND FAST.GREAT FOR UNEXPECTED COMPANY.AND THERE IS NO END TO THE ADD IN'S JUST TO DRESS IT UP A LITTLE BIT. item not reviewed by moderator and published
One of my family's favorite summer salads. I usually combine all of the ingredients except for the crackers in advance and mix the salad together right before mealtime. Can't imagine it would save well, but there are never any leftovers no matter how much I make, so no worries! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was quite crunchy and probably not something I would go out of my way to make again. Tasted good, but not special. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This salad is wonderful. It's maybe too rich for every-day, but it's a very yummy treat for special meals. item not reviewed by moderator and published
this is a awesome side dishby it's self but i also added grated sharp cheddarcheese to it. even better! item not reviewed by moderator and published
To be honest, my wife and I weren't expecting much out of this one, but boy were we wrong! This is very easy to make and very, very good! We only used one cup of mayo (adjusted it like Paula said in the episode that featured this recipe) and that was plenty for us. Overall, great recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published

My mother sent me one of Paula Dean's cookbooks recently. In thumbing through I came across this recipe and then I began reading the reviews here. Everyone seems so ga-ga over it so I figured I'd give it a shot. I had everything in the kitchen that I needed for it. WOW! This is one the best tasting, simple to make dishes I've had in a long time. I'll definately have this again. Reminds me of the kinds of things I threw together when I was poor and in college. But Paula has made that kind of eating famous! Haha. Great salad Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I knew right when I saw Paula make this that I would love it and I did. So simple and so good! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a great standby! Just have the crackers ready to add at the last minute to avoid soggy taste. item not reviewed by moderator and published

Have to make at the last minute so cracker's don't get soggy. So easy and taste good, too. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have made this salad before and love it. If you use more egg and pickles and onions, it tastes exactly like potato salad without the potatoes. item not reviewed by moderator and published

The simple ingredients, and ease of preparation could easily fool you into taking this dish as an afterthought. But the taste is amazing, and it ws the most successful part of our sunday dinner. This is another texture combination that get's your attention. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This dish is always a real crowd pleaser. I've yet to meet anyone who does not like it. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Paula, the cracker salad was delicious. I served it first because I was afraid the crackers would get soggy but we could have eaten it with dinner. I will definitaly make it again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Paula Deen does it again This is a lip smacking salad - although you got to be quick with it. I enjoyed how fast it was to make and so simple. Paula you are the mistress of down home cooking!!! Keep up the good work. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I wanted to try this recipe but was skeptical when I started to put it together. Turned out there was no need to worry. It was delicious! Even my husband, who said it sounded absolutely disgusting when I told him what I was making, gobbled it down and was sorry when the serving dish was empty. Another salad I served with it had fresh basil. The flavor of the cracker salad along with the basil tasted quite a bit like Paula's wonderful, wonderful, wonderful tomato pie. Thanks again Paula. You are the best! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This is a great alternative to the sometimes "boring" cracker, mayo and tomatoe snack. This one was hit with several generations. item not reviewed by moderator and published

I tried this just to see only I didn't have any chopped tomatoes so I substituted the tomatoes from roitel. It was spicy but actually really good. I will definitely make it again. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Both my wife and I really liked this recipe, and have made two modifications. When I watched the show, Paula said that she liked to make the salad just as she was having the guests come to the table, so the crackers did not get too soggy. To add more crunch, and a longer crunch life-span, I used oyster crackers instead of saltines. Then to add some spice, I used chili ready diced tomatoes. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Absolutely delicious! I think the recipe calls for a little too much mayo for my taste - so beware when adding the mayo! It's so easy and good though. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This was any easy recipe to make and everyone loved it. Another of Pauls recipes that I will be making over n over again. item not reviewed by moderator and published

Paula, I'm about your age and thought I'd eaten 'bout everything made with crackers, including Mock Apple Pie. Boy was I wrong! After the first bite my roomate and I looked at each other and said "IT TASTES LIKE AVACADO" sheer bliss for us! We can't afford avacado very often, but now we have an"anytime" substitute that's super easy, and not expensive either!! You'v "cracked it up a notch!" THANK YOU. I just love the cracker salad... what a yummy treat that only Paula could pull off!! Very easy... I used a little less mayo and definately added it last. item not reviewed by moderator and published
Very unusual & terrific salad, Paula. I'm sure I will make it many times in the future. Everybody loved it! item not reviewed by moderator and published
That's my husband's comment to each bite of the 4 large servings he had. Which left me with very little. We both never had cracker salad before. Many found the recipe to be rich in Mayo, but Pauls said on the show to add a bit at a time till you reach the amount that it's enough for you. I added a tiny bit of finely diced celery, and I think at times a a few small cooked shrimps would give it a twist. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This salad goes very nicely with fish. I didn't want to serve cole slaw with my fish meal, so I tried this cracker salad, oh may, it was just great and the taste was just what I was looking for.Linda of Michigan item not reviewed by moderator and published
Great little salad. Serve immediately. Full of flavor. item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe was easy to make and tasty. Something different to have as a side dish. I did use less mayonaise then the recipe called for and it still was great. Thank you. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I had never tried cracker salad before, but this recipe sounded so interesting that I gave it a whirl just as a novelty. I was surprised at how great it was. So great, in fact, that I made it again the very next day. It's now a staple in my recipe arsenal. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I grew up with a different version of Paula's salad. Omit the egg and use a sweet white onion and add celery seed. Really really good. item not reviewed by moderator and published
I subbed tofu for the egg, and though this is by no means a health dish, it tastes quite good for such a simple recipe! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I loved this different recipe! The blend of flavors is delicious. The texture makes it very inviting. I will definitely be serving this to my guests! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Being a "Yankee" I am delighted by Southern Cuisine, and Paula has it down pat to a science. I went nuts over this salad. I never heard of such a thing before. If you want to turn heads, this is the recipe to serve at a luncheon. item not reviewed by moderator and published

This salad was absolutely delicious!! I would suggest making it right before you serve it to the table, because it will still be crunchy. I had some leftover, and put that in the fridge, and it was still pretty good not being crunchy too!! I can guarantee this will be a family favorite of ours!! Thanks Paula! This is yummylicious!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I have not yet tried this recipe but it sounds great. In reading the reviews I had a thought. If you are serving this at home you could make this salad ahead and when ready to eat add the crackers then. No sogginess! You could always depending on where you are taking the salad also add the crackers when its time to eat. Anyway, just a thought. Thanks... item not reviewed by moderator and published
This salad is really awesome! It is so easy and I have had rave reviews every time I have served it. I even use fat free saltines and reduced calorie mayo and it tastes just the same. Thanks Paula for a great recipe!! item not reviewed by moderator and published
Such an easy, delicious alternative salad. Although I always double this recipe, no mater where I take it, it's the first thing that goes so I wouldn't know whether it's good the next day or not! item not reviewed by moderator and published
This recipe was on Paula's Fried Catfish episode. I made everything she did, and it was all great, but this recipe really stood out! My teenagers loved it! I don't like it soggy, so a great tip is to make it at the very end so it stays crunchy if it lasts that long. Needless to say, I had to make it again yesterday for my 17 year old daughter. That was her only request, the cracker salad. You have to try it! It is hard to believe something so quick and easy is sooooo good. Easiest recipe with the fewest ingredients I've ever seen. I always make it on the spot, never ahead. Made it at a church social and they were stacked up like cordwood wantin this recipe. Thanks Paula! item not reviewed by moderator and published
I was born and raised in NY, and recently moved in with my boyfriend, whose entire family is from the south. I've never really cooked "southern" foods, although they have always looked so delicious to me. I consider myself a good cook, (not to brag) as I have never heard any complaints. I cook for his family very often, and I am always looking for new recipes. When I saw this one, I decided to try it. Well, 4 batches later (within 2 days), it has scored me BIG points with his family!! We absolutely LOVED it. His father said, "Girl, I bet you got a little southern in ya, and ya didnt even know it". His father was the easy one, I already won him over with my homemade sausage gravy and biscuits, haha. I have since gave your cracker salad recipe to several friends, whom all have loved it as well. If you had a rating of 100 stars for this one, you bet I'd give ya all of them. Thank you Paula!! p.s.- My boyfriend says you can come to our house and cook anytime, haha. item not reviewed by moderator and published
