If you can read and proclaim to be a cook - you should then be able to interpet the recipe. If it's not for you then don't make it. Pass over it, instead of making really dumb remarks about the host of the show. Why would you even watch the show, since you know what Paula is all about. Go complain about something else. At least she TELLS you it's not goo for you! I find that very responsible. Null is probably negative in most situations. Heck, she's hungry!

Everybody loved it but it was so rich people could only eat about a 1-inch square. So we had lots of it leftover since I made it in a 9x13 pan.

My 12 year old son liked this one so much for his last birthday that he requested it by name for his 13th birthday this year.

I have made this cake at least 10 times already; very simple and easy recipe to follow. For all the people counting your calories....get a smaller piece!

So... I decided to take a stab and make this recipe and something went wrong. I think I left it in the oven too long and at that I put it on the top rack and I think it should go on the middle rack. I did take some suggestions and I only used 1/2 a stick of butter in the topping and I only used 1/2 cup of powder sugar. It was still sweet and rich but a little burnt and too done. I'm also not sure if I like the toffee chips in it. I love Heath bar but I guess I was expecting the crunch which wasn't there b/c the chips obviously melted. I'm sure if Paula made this cake for me it would be soo much better than the way mine turned out. She is very talented and cooks great southern food!!!

My kids love the Gooey Butter Cake in all its variations, but I just had to lower the fat and calorie content a little. A pound of powdered sugar -- NO WAY!!

Here's what I did differently: Cake portion is just as Paula's way, no changes there. For the cream cheese topping, I only used 1/2 stick of butter (instead of a whole stick, and 1 cup of powdered sugar (instead of a whole 1 lb. package. Reduce baking time to about 35 minutes, or until a tester comes out with a bit of goo (but NOT liquid-y attached. The cake is plenty sweet and moist made this way, so I can't even begin to imagine it with all the extra butter and sugar as Paula makes it!

Oh, and I use Dr. Oetker's Organic Vanilla and Chocolate Cake Mixes. If you read the ingredients on the package, they are just like homemade: Flour, sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, vanilla, cocoa, and locust bean gum -- THAT'S IT! No unpronounceable chemical ingredients or that awful cake mix taste. Dr. Oetker's products are definitely worth searching out.

Just made the cake... didn't have toffee, so I substituted snickers & twix. OMG, it's absolutely amazing!
