I love this recipe. I wouldn't call it a "cake", more like a bar dessert. But the taste is out of this world rich and decadent. I like to sprinkle a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips on top before baking. The flavor and texture remind me of the cheesecake brownie that is sold by the Great American Cookie Co. This recipe has never failed to get raves. Just beware, it is so rich that you may get sick to your stomach if you overindulge! However, I've reduced the overall butter by half and the result was still excellent.

Made this for our Thanksgiving get together and couldn't keep my husband from eating it before the guests arrived! It is absolutely delicious....a little rich but great with a good cup of coffee. My husband added to it, by warming it in the microwave for a few seconds and then adding a dollop of homemade whipped cream....made it even better!

I love toffee, so despite every bone in my body telling me these ingredients can't make anything but a greasy mess....I gave this a try. This is something a 6 yr old would concocot if you left them alone to creat a desert. I gave them to 5 kids from 6-14 yrs, and although they liked the first bite, this cake is so over the top they could not eat more than 1-2 bites. Adults were not even that crazy over the taste. There simply is no reason a person should put something like this in their bodies. Paula, please take some responsibility for guiding your audience to a reasonably healthy life style. Everything is OK in moderation, but your cooking is always over the top. The food and life style you promote on your shows is as irresponsible as if you were promoting smoking or drugs. It is obvious from your appearance you feel this lifestyle is well suited to your own body, but you cross the line when you promote this level of unhealthy eating to your viewers.

There really is heaven on earth! I didn't have the toffee so I substituted with 5 mini Butterfinger candy bars and 6 Reese's cups... chopped. My husband said 'Wow... this is about the best thing I've even eaten in my life'. Thank you Miss Paula!

A great way to change this up a little is to use white chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. I just pour these in as a middle layer between the cake and the cream cheese filling. About ten minutes before they're done baking, I sprinkle a little coconut on top. They're really good and give a little variety to a plain old chocolate recipe!
