If you didn't like your cake...... well let's just say 'it's the archer not the arrow'.
This cake is AMAZING--blue ribbon winning. Not all cakes are light and fluffy, this one is dense and deeeeelish. A dollop of crème fraiche on top would cut the sweetness if that's an issue for you.
And as for the oil and butter..... IT'S A SOUTHERN PAULA DEEN CAKE, PEOPLE!!! Eat a small piece and then don't sit on the couch. Life is common sense and balance.

The last time I made this there wasn't even a crumb left on the cake stand and everyone else's cakes were sitting there looking sad and whole. =+

I was so excited to try this recipe, but was horribly disappointed by how it came out. I always read the reviews to note any modifications, and for this cake I did cut the sugar by half. However, the cake came out SO OILY. It was terrible. Basically inedible. I'm shocked no one else has mentioned the inordinate amount of oil called for in this recipe. I will try it again, but will cut the oil down to 1/2 cup and maybe add a little applesauce to keep it moist.

I have a deli and bake alot of scratch made cakes. Had some apples in the frig. and needed to use them before they went bad. Came across this recipe and I love doing one bowl recipes for the simply fact, less dishes to clean! This cake is absolutely decadent! I am in love :

Delicious! I have an apple orchard and am always looking for new apple related recipes. I made it for a a dinner party and it was a hit! Everyone LOVED it! While it cooled, I was able to bake something for dinner. Perfect timing!! It was still warm when we had it for dessert. I used golden delicious apples.

Excellent & easy. I didn't make the sauce, b/c the cake seemed sweet enough without it...., and it was. I think the next time I will make it without the coconut, and I love coconut, because it just seemed like an extra ingredient, one I couldn't taste so I don't think I will miss it. The apples & nuts seem?????like they would be just fine.Delicious.

Oh my!! Love this cake. For someone who always masses something up in the recipe and gets it all wrong this is a mistake-proof recipe. It's pretty much guaranteed to come out good.
I made it twice so far, first time following it exactly, but second time I cut down on the sugar and it's still amazing (I actually like it with less sugar better. So I used a little more than a cup of sugar for the cake itself, and then I cut all the ingredients in half for the glaze.
This cake was an absolute favorite during the holidays, and my husband is in love with it too :
    Thanks Paula!

Wow! A crowd pleaser for both men and women! I made this after reading the reviews and watching the video. I was looking for a great tasting dessert for my Bunco dinner party for 12 fantastic cooks! Pressure to please-you bet! I made a test cake 3 days before the gathering, I did everything as the recipe said, but dropped the sugar down to 1 1/2 cups-it was fabulous!! I shared this cake with everyone on the cul de sac. Five plates of sliced cake went out the door-you couldn't believe the compliments. This cake should be made a day ahead (great for busy entertaining! By the second day-use as a delicious coffee cake with a cup of coffee. Oh, by the way, all wanted the recipe at my Bunco club dinner! This is an absolute must for entertaining-I used Granny Smith apples. Enjoy!!

I found it to be too sweet with the glaze and tried leaving it off. I then found it didnt have enough flavor.so.....not a keeper here. Neither my daughter or husband liked it.
