Perfect homemade Southern Cake, Great taste and texture, I used candied Pecans. We made this for breakfast and served wit a fresh pot of coffee. LOVED IT!!!!

This is not a cake for the uber snobby or those who want something from a bakery....

I'm not sure why all the high reviews on this recipe, I was very underwelmed by this cake. After reading a previous reviewer say they made a boxed cake mix, I was a bit confused until I baked this cake...this is like a glorified boxed cake mix, excess oil and all.

So moist and delicious and easy! This is a very forgiving recipe should you want or need to make changes. I left out the coconut and nuts and substituted apple cider for the orange juice since that was what I had handy. Be sure to allow the cake to sit for at least an hour after pouring the glaze or the cake will fall apart. This is definitely a "keeper"!

I have made this cake numerous times and now that it is offically FALL all the folks at work were begging for me to make this cake. You have to try this receipe as it is flavorful, moist, delicious, and most likely extremely fattening. But, of cares....it is faboulous!

I have been making this cake for two years and it always gets rave reviews. The first time I made the batter I was sure something was wrong - it does not look like your average cake batter - but don't worry, it bakes up perfect every time. When people ask me if I actually made it (because it sooo good I always say "Of course, with a little help from Paula!".

I thought this cake was going to be close to my mom's jewish apple cake recipe with the addition of coconut and nuts, which I LOVE. I was very disappointed. The cake fell apart coming out of the pan and could have done without the sauce poured over the top, made it WAY too heavy and sweet. Size of pan is not specified, I used a standard tube cake pan. The cake was exceedingly heavy and wet.

Next time I will omit the butter sauce, half the sugar and cook longer than directed, 90 minutes didn't do it.
