My mother used to make sand tarts with one walnut placed carefully on top of a rolled-out star shape. Not my favorite cookie. So last Christmas, I made Paula's recipe (taking care to let the cookies cool a little before sprinkling with powdered sugar and gave them to my mother. She loved them! So much that she asked me to make these cookies for her again this Christmas. Thank you, Paula, for providing me with a delicious cookie to please my mom!

Sinful, but worth it!! I added a little lemon extract for a zing. This is my go to recipe along, with Paula's Five Layer Bars during the holidays.

Everyone in my family loves these cookies! Also I make them every Cristmas and give them to my friends and co-workers. Always a big hit. I use walnuts or pecans. I'm also a Georgia girl transplanted to Albuquerque. The high altitude can affect some baking recipes, but this one is perfect. Love you Paula!

Thank You Paula - and thanks to your sons, too. Great Episode and very helpful. This is by far one of the most satisfying and tasty cookies I have ever made...or eaten. And so easy. After my cookies have been dusted once with the sugar, I go back and do it again - absolutely brilliant!! On my third batch as I have discovered that these make fantastic Christmas gifts and bring alongs to parties and work.

Very yummy! Easy to make. You don't have to shape them in crescents, it just makes them more festive.

I tweeked this recipe a little but I absolutely LOVE it. I added an extra tsp of vanilla (this was accidental, but worth it and I added 1 tsp ammaretto (totally on purpose. I cannot stop eating these cookies and they just get better & better the longer they are around. I brought them to a cookie swap and picked them as one of my picks!
