I liked how easy this cake was and it had no "special" ingredients. I did look at the reviews before I made it and cut the sugar down to 2 1/4 cup and 5 eggs instead of six and added the lemon juice. The cake was really dense and not everyone likes that but it worked your me. I also put chopped walnuts at the bottom of my bunt pan to get an extra treat. Next time I make it I will be using cake flour.

I have made many pound cakes. I made this one; it was awful. I tried again and got the same results: awful.

Listening other reviewers, I cut down the sugar to 2 1/4 c, added 1/3 c lemon juice, and doubled the vanilla amt. And I also cut down the eggs to 4. It was still too sweet for my taste. I also made the recipe into strawberry shortcake cups. I was worried that other reviewers couldn't cook their cake all the way through, so this was my solution. It turned out great. For the icing, I simply used whipped cream and topped each cup with a sliced strawberry. I was impressed that the texture of the cake was so dense and moist. I would make it again.

PLEASE, I beg you...cut the sugar to 2.5 cups. I'm a sweets-lover so I thought I could hang. WRONG. The consistency and crust were perfect. However, the sugary taste is a little overpowering. I'm off to find something citrusy to pair this with. :-/

This cake was a husband pleaser. My husband likes his cake plain. He loved this cake without any frosting. He loved the moisture. This was a keeper for sure and I will make this cake for him until he tells me he's had enough.
